I've posted our groups fighter rules at this thread..

...which I do not claim to be perfect. But I thought I'd start this new thread to discuss the overall concept of fighters in the FASA game.
(Some people might think they have no place in the game, I have no problem with this. However I would like to see what people think, in a calm and constructive manner.)
Various people over the years posted their version of fighter rules on the old forum. As I pointed out in our groups fighter rules, if you use impulse only 'fighters' and 'bombers', it gives an in-universe rationale for them to exist, that is static defense for outposts and Starbases. You may or may not agree with this. Some people think that the one man (being) fighter craft is a silly concept in starship combat. It probably will be in the future in reality. You could probably say that they are unmanned fighters, which again could tie in with the base defense idea.
Someone recently pointed out specifically that maybe a different construction system is needed for these types of vessels. After all, in real life, the same construction methods aren't used to construct wet naval vessels as construct fighter aircraft, which is a valid point. Especially as modern naval carrier warfare is what a lot of people base their star fighter concepts on.
Blame whoever you want, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Star Wars or whatever ( ), the idea of fighters in SF is prevalent, plus there are some cool designs out there, in SF and especially in gaming.
So, what are people's own thoughts on the matter?
