In the original version of the "The Deadly Years" the Romulan ships were all the Bird of Prey type and they used stock footage from "Balance of Terror"... So, yep - V-8 Vas Hatham class BoPs all the way. I thought that was what I remembered. But, it has been 15+ years since I have actually seen the original footage. Thank you. What amazes me is, they can bring dead actors back to life for new parts in Star Wars but nobody thought to redesign the Klingons of TOS to match TMP and TNG era. I donβt subscribe to the genetic manipulation idea for an entire race. I totally disagree with the idea of changing the Romulans as well. Oh well, some people are just never happy! Lol

And if you've got ship designs or mini photos, feel free to show them off too.

Hi. My name is Steve.
I've known about this website for quite some time, off and on. I've never had the will to sign up until now because I didn't know what I could possibly offer.
I grew up in what I feel was the Golden Age of tabletop RPGs (maybe even more so as I had older friends who were very enthusiastic about the medium). I was an active player up until college when people began to move away. By then, computer gaming had taken over and tabletop RPGs became very niche and otherwise hard to find.
I've always liked the FASA Star Trek RPG. I've always enjoyed certain elements of Star Trek and always will. I won't get into "New Trek vs. Old Trek" or "Star Wars vs. Star Trek" discussions; To each their own.
And, of course, for a while, I was inseparable with the starship construction manual & the starship recognition manuals.
I guess that "my thing" was that I retconned pretty much the entire Star Trek universe (TOS with a few elements of TNG thrown in) until it became it's own separate alternate universe (sort of like another "Mirror Universe") and, by extension, all of the starships and whatnot about Star Trek. What else was I going to do in my teens? Actual work?
I won't elaborate too much on the particulars of the universe in this post but, in brief:
* The Romulans were "The Good Guys" (albeit a bit on the paranoid side). * The Vulcans sort of resembled what The Romulans typically were. * The Gorn were still lizard-like but shorter, smaller, simpler & very strict (hive-like almost). * The Orion were very capitalistic, very nomadic (although they technically had territory, they considered themselves nomadic) * The Klingons were the least changed but they were very unorganized, broken down into various clans constantly fighting amongst themselves. * The Federation was far more homogeneous (It was just humans and Vulcans and the Vulcans weren't natives in the area).
I tried keeping the broad strokes of the timeline intact but for different reasons. Anyway, it was all very fun and it was a great distraction for when I needed it.
In terms of starships, I liked making mundane starships (non-combat or low combat ones) and making very detailed histories about particular ones. I just enjoyed that for some reason and, even at my current age, I still do that to a degree.
Anyway, that's my history in a nutshell.

Welcome aboard, steve If you still have them, post details of your version of FASA Trek. I'd love to see the differences.

I just enjoyed that for some reason and, even at my current age, I still do that to a degree. Anyway, that's my history in a nutshell. I'm not this poster, despite the name similarity. I loved the Fasa Trek setting, not the least of reasons being how the Klingons and Romulans were portrayed. The John Ford Klingons were more than just "Rarrr, Me Klingon!" Samurai-Bikers. The Romulans were more than just Evil Vulcans with a police state and shoulder pads. The Orions and their colonies with their playing everyone off each other and their deep dark Grey secret. It was the Wild West with phasers and warp engines and could be anything. Exploration, merchants, spies in the Triangle, a war game, a game where resorting to shooting could result in failure. It was so open. For a variety of reasons, I never warmed up to TNG or the rest of the Roddenberry/Berman/Braga versions of Star Trek. So, as far as I'm concerned Star Trek just kind of stopped for me with then end of Star Trek IV, when we see the new Enterprise warping off to new adventures. Star Trek V was the closest in intention to what the series was about, but failed spectacularly, and I always disliked ST6's message that the freedom-loving Federation was wrong to oppose the Klingons. I haven't actually played a game of Fasa STRPG or STSTCS in decades. I just decided one evening to look at some old Fasa Trek material I saw online and remembered just how much I enjoyed the setting. So here I am.

Welcome onboard steven I'm like you, where I haven't actually played a FASA STSTCS Trek game in over 15 years (and longer for the RPG). But loved this site when I found the original, and have posted ship designs from my games and my mini pics over the years. Hope you know about the database site linked to below, from the forum owner, a site listing the complete data listings of the FASA ships from the game, many with updated graphic images... www.ststcsolda.spaceAnd yes, I much preferred the John Ford take on the Klingons! Which helped FASA give us Imperial Klingons and Human Fusion and Romulan Fusion Klingons to explain Kor, Koloth and Kang being different from TMP Klingons! Have fun, and hope you can post things from your games.

Have fun, and hope you can post things from your games. I'm actually writing up a sort of write-up of a sector on the edge of the Federation space, just for something to do, but when it's done I'd be happy to share with the group.

Apparently, you are not alone in the universe. I too enjoy TOS best of all and have not actually played the game since I lost everything in a flood and divorce. In fact, I was not happy with the original as much as I thought I was. Iβve recently re-acquired the game and am now in the process of rewriting it and the history to suit my fancy. My Federation becomes the United Star Systems and my Vulcans/Romulans are the βgray, bug-eyed aliensβ that have supposedly been visiting Earth for hundreds of years. Hope you are having as FB much fun with your rewrite as I am with mine

Hope you are having as FB much fun with your rewrite as I am with mine ? No idea where that βFBβ came from? You do know you can edit your posts for typos like that? I have to do it shortly after I post anything usually because of the touchscreen of my tablet. I've also spotted a typo or two YEARS after I've posted, and have been known to correct them!

Hi! I'm new here!
I found this site looking for information on STCS. I missed the heyday of this game but am looking forward to learning it.
My intentions are to use STCS as the space element of an RPG a friend and I intend to run using Star Trek Adventures. We've considered a few other options but like the depth of this system.
Thanks for letting me be a part of the community!
