Gotta get my stuff out of storage first, but I have an idea brewing. A ship with railguns and rods-from-god. Maybe I'll try to figure out how to design engines from scratch.
Only weak spot is I can't draw and I don't have photoshop.

Howdy friends. Used to play Starfleet Battles in high school. This game looks more elegant and time-efficient, which is obviously a factor for a supposed adult like me. How do you prefer to play? By using Vassal, or by some other means?

Never managed to get Vassal to work for me, but then I'm running old Mac computers! So if I get a chance, it's control sheets on paper and miniatures for me, Jason.
Feel free to post pics, house rules or After Action reports if you wish in the relevant sub forums. It's what we're here for.
And if you've joined up since Jason, why don't you tell us a bit about yourself and how you came into the game we all love.

Greetings! Thanks for all the cool data on the site. I recently started playing this game again. Also what's up with the front page? A lot of the sweet .pdf files are pining for the fjords.

Hi, I'm Dexter and I seek peaceful coexistence. I became interested in FASA just around the time it was losing its license. Despite Paramount's ultimate rejection of FASA, I think it is clear that FASA did some good work, and that FASA's power was a threat to Paramount. What we are left with is a Star Trek that was heavily influenced by FASA, even if FASA was ultimately left behind. Hey there, Dexter. Welcome aboard! I'm Andy. Don't let the "full member" rank fool you. I've been on this ship for over a decade and I AM still an Admiral. All of our ranks were destroyed when our fearless leader decided to push the reset button a few years ago for some reason. Anyway, enjoy, we all welcome you.

Hi there, Rabid! Welcome to our quiet little vessel in our out -of- the- way corner of the Multiverse. Enjoy, and if you need directions to any part of the ship, just hit the com panel in the corridor.

Well, I'm not exactly new - but I realized I never posted in this thread.
I played ST:STCS when it was called the Star Trek movie simulator (don't remember it's name - too long ago). This game was a God-send in high-school and college (where funds for entertainment were pretty low) and I played many hundreds of games on the weekends with great friends who were also highly skilled tacticians! Now I spend my time developing stats for Next Generation ships that play in the same exiting way as the ships from earlier eras as well as 'correcting' ships from the original ship recognition manuals.

I bought the original Games Workshop re-print of the Starship Combat game (with a still photo from the ST3 film on the front) in about 1984 - it was my first game and got me into the Star Trek RPG too. Had a good collection of miniatures but sold them on - regret it now though! I posted some photos on BoardGameGeek before I sold the miniatures - they are still there if you fancy a look...

My friend offered me his minis about 10 years ago. I declined, I hadn't played in years and thought it was never going to happen again. I had less minis, and they were still wrecked from a break-in in 1994; they must have thought my very heavy index box had something valuable in it, so they spilled them on the floor and walked all over them. Assholes. If I were somehow able to find them and get a hold of those bastards, even 22 years later.... Pretty much impossible, of course.
I could slap myself for declining my friend's offer. Hope to hell he didn't just toss them out.

I did not know about this thread, so belatedly, I am new here I really enjoy ST:TOS, ST:II, ST:IV, ST:DS9, ST:TNG, ST:TAS, "Mirror Darkly" Episodes of ST:ENT, and ST:TMP, then the rest of the ST franchise. I've played ST:STCS, a tiny bit of the RPG, and Starfleet battles like once - but that was all back in the 1990's. I have the rules for ST:STCS now, and have enjoyed flipping through them. I'm kind of an PRG/TTG oddball in that I have published adventures for the old Super-Hero RPG "Villains & Vigilantes", and I have an affinity for "dead" games (i.e. that which is out of print). They are usually well-written, require some flippin' imagination, and I don't have to worry about buying all new stuff when the next Edition comes out. Nice to meet ya'll.

Belated welcome to you, Irronnerd. I never played villains and vigilantes but I remember it. I have just about any source material you might need, let me know and I can PM you a PDF or something.

I am still relatively new and excuse any errors. Have enjoyed this game since the late 80 and 90's Always was into building ships, Klingon of course, could be I favor the underdog. I like the new Ideas and building here. would be nice to find an excel build sheet with dual impulse and 4 beam weapons, Used to have a modified one but got lost in my latest computer crash. I enjoy the harmony and discussion on many topics>

This model isn't a "mini" game piece...it actually began back in the day of "Star Fleet Battles" in pre 90's high school , then revisited again in College ( Industrial Design) and now as I am between jobs and wanting to see it finally finished. Still unsure of the differences of class between a heavy cruiser and a battleship and what makes a dreadnaught a dreadnaught( 4 warp nacelles? ) Was made to be in scale with the Bandai 1/850 scale "Enterprise A" kit I bought while living in Japan in 2001. Also wanting to "officially" name it but funnily enough if you have read the description of the Romulan Thunderbird it would match my model to a tee, although the images that accompany it are VASSSTLY different from my design. Can't get attachment to work though? How to attach an image? See below The differences are hard to quantify, if you take a cruiser and upgrade you can have a Dreadnought, in an earlier time slot, but I guess it would be nice to have some better way of telling them apart, maybe something to do with the WDF , D or CE could be used. Other wise it is up to the designer to decide what their ship is going to be! I never really gave it much thought as I usually try to upgrade existing ships. I allow myself 1 class clot for weight and wala a new and approved ship appears

I'm both old and new. I was a member of this board when it first started. That feels like 100 years ago. My life is basically a shambles and I'm just glad I can get back on here, I tried a little while ago but then another catastrophe exploded and blah blah blah long story short, I was denied again. Here I am now... I hope I can stay longer this time.
