More minis for the pirates amongst you to drool over! (Yikes, nearly a year since I last posted mini pics!) FASA Wanderer Class kit-bashHere's a simple kit-bash done with a Wanderer Class Blockade Runner. Simply cut the forward pod and engines off of the trapezoid central section, and glue the pod and engines together. VOILA! A small Orion raider that looks like it could be based off the Wanderer Class! FASA Wanderer Class and Wanderer kit-bashAnd here's a photo showing the kit-bash with a Wanderer alongside it for comparison. Silent Death Black Widow Gunboat as Orion Thunderer Class V Missile CruiserAnother Silent Death miniature comes to our rescue for use in FASA games, Drakar is the original designation for this mini, it was renamed Black Widow later, like some of the Silent Death minis. To give the Orions another heavy hitter, I came up with the Thunderer Class Missile Cruiser to be similar to the Federation Andor, Klingon FU-12 and Romulan Firehawk missile cruisers. Fairs fair, although this has the Orion flavor/bias of forward and aft torpedoes only. Stats for the Thunderer class can be found here... ststcsolda.proboards.com/post/8318Silent Death Black Widow and Aerotech TR-10 TransitAnd a comparison photo with the Aerotech Transit mini I use for my Marauder Class Blockade Cruiser. EDIT: Here's a group comparison shot of my 'fast' style Orion minis... Like I said, Warp Factor 8 standing still! Mark

A few more pics for your enjoyment and miniature information from my Orion fleet. Irregular Minis DYD12 Rapier Gunboat?, DYD11 Blitzspear Corvette?, and Brigade Models SFS-251 American Republic Guardian class Corvette as Small Orion raidersIn the FASA STSTCS construction system, it's possible to design lots of really fast, maneuverable little gunboats/corvettes, and here's a few minis that we used to represent them. I think the first two designations are correct! Brigade Models Starship range can be found here in the UK... www.brigademodels.co.uk/Spaceships/index.html...and as recently posted on the Starship Combat News forum and on the TMP Spaceship Gaming subforum (July 2015), are now available in the US via Scale Creep Miniatures. Starship minis on their website can be found here... www.scalecreep.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=3278_3824The Brigade ranges were originally inspired by Ground Zero Games ranges, representing factions not covered by GZG 'officially', but have expanded from there, and I think they are nicer looking minis these days. For new factions in your FASA games, they can be recommended. Have a droll over the pics on both the Brigade and Scale Creep websites. Unknown mini as Orion Small Carrier/freighterGot this mini years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called, or what manufacturer or game system it's from. Does anyone here recognise it? Anyway, it could be used as a freighter, or as the outboard 'bays' suggest, perhaps a small Carrier, if you like fighters and have House Rules for them in your games? Irregular Minis SH4 Human Cruiser as Large Orion CarrierA very basic offering from Irregular Minis that I think I got in a job lot at a wargames flea market "Bring and Buy' table. Cardstock hanger bays were added underneath the hull for that 'mini Battlestar Galactica' look! FASA (Citadel] D-7 and Irregular SH4And here is the SH4 in a comparison shot with a FASA D-7 as my Orion K't'chep Cruiser! FASA Lightning and Irregular Minis DYD5 Javelin Class Light CruiserHow's that for an up-scaling of the original FASA mini!!! Who says the Klingons should be the only ones to have fun doing that with starships! The Irregular Minis Spaceship ranges that I've mentioned before can still be found at this link here in the UK... www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/6mmRanges/6mmSciFi.htmSince I first posted that link, there have been a lot more pictures posted of their ranges for your perusal. Thanks, rarcher. I don't know what made me see the Wanderer kitbash idea, but after the fact, it seems such a simple idea. Ties in with the original FASA Orion style. Sometimes, it just needs something looked at from a different angle as it were. Like flying Aerotech minis upside down as Romulans! Wait till you see what I did for Gorn starships! Mark

Ah, thanks for that picture, starcruiser. Based on that number, I've googled for the manufacturer and mini name, so here's the updated picture. RAFM Traveller 5803 Gazelle Close Escort as Orion Small Carrier/freighterMost helpful, Sir! Thanks again I must get round to finishing painting her. These recent posts have got me in a painting mood. I'll try and get her done soon, and then I'll post an updated picture. Mark EDIT: 26/05/17 - Here's the updated picture of the Traveller Close Escort in Orion colours. Enjoy the new pic. Mark

One more lot of minis for the Orions amongst you. Aerotech TR-13 Trangressor as ORION CONQUEROR HEAVY CRUISERAnother Aerotech miniature put to good use. As I mentioned in the Conqueror stats post, I used this mini as it is similar in design to the minis used for my Assassin and Marauder class vessels. You can see the similar design elements and progression in this picture below... Design progression from Assassin to Marauder to ConquerorThe stats for the Conqueror class can be found here... ststcsolda.proboards.com/post/8393Unknown mini as Orion Small FreighterAnother mini that I can't remember the manufacturer or game system for, even though I remember where I bought it! That games store is no longer there, sadly. I used this one as it vaguely matches the SFB Orion style, pointed nose and wings to the side! Perhaps someone might recognize it? Silent Death Nemesis as Orion Large Freighter (mini originally called Betafortress)I just used the Nemesis on a whim as a larger freighter for the Orions, because it looked big and chunky, sort of matched the look of the Irregular SH4 mini I used as an Orion carrier shown above, and I didn't see a use for it for another STSTCS faction in my eyes. And again, starcruiser to the rescue. You are the man! As before, here's an updated picture... Silent Death 0652 Equalizer DD mini as Orion Small FreighterUnusual I didn't remember that as a Silent Death mini. I quite clearly remember buying the mini, but was sure it was from another system. Thanks again! Mark

As a small aside, looking at the Metal Express website after seeing the link starcruiser gave for the Silent death Equalizer mini, I've noticed something about the current available Silent Death minis. silent-death.mx/store/I knew a few minis had been redesigned, but I notice that some of the original sculpts have been renamed, such as the Glaive I used for my Master Assassin class raider now being called Shark, and that the name Glaive is used for a newer sculpt. So, if you're interested in using the Silent Death minis I have, assume that any mention I've made to them in the past used the original names, but might have a new name. It looks to me as if most of the original minis are still available. EDIT - 27/10//17 - I've gone back and updated pics with Silent Death minis with their modern names, while noting the original name I bought them as!Confusing, eh? But the above link has picture views of the available minis, so this should help people. As of now (September 2015), the link shows a total of 146 minis available. EDIT - 27/10/17 - Store link updated. Store showing 155 minis. There is also a Facebook page that is viewable without being on Facebook, here is the link to that... www.facebook.com/pages/Silent-Death-The-Next-Millennium/861833757239194I haven't seen any of the newly available minis, but hopefully they are made to the same high standard as the old minis. If so, I would thoroughly recommend them. Mark

There are very few gaming shops that carry any "real" miniatures now. Part of the reason that I.C.E. sold off the line to Metal Express years ago.
What VERY few of the newer I've seen, they seem to be very similar in quality to the old I.C.E. minis.
It's also interesting to note that a few of the minis have actually been used in the Traveller line, mostly a couple of the fighter types.

Ok, one last post of Orion minis for now, and I'll get onto the Gorn mini pics I promised you folks a year ago! Sorry, real life got distracting! FASA Lightning Class Blockade Runner and Irregular Miniatures DYD5 Javelin Class Light CruiserJust an update showing a painted up Javelin mini from Irregular Miniatures, which I now use for my Superlightning Class Blockade Runner shown here... ststcsolda.proboards.com/post/9117These last two weekends, I've been getting some Gorn minis painted up, which I will start to get posted in a few days or so. Stay tuned, Gorn! Mark

Ok, so finally I get my act in gear. As I promised, here are some FASA minis and other ideas for representing the starships of our favorite men in rubber reptilian suits, the Gorn! FASA Gorn MA-12 Cruiser and BH-2 BattleshipThe classic FASA Gorn style is represented here by the only two original minis that FASA released for the Gorn Alliance. Basically giant flying wedges, it establishes a style for us to repeat in stand-in miniatures. The tiny MA-12 is still a nice little mini, and the BH-2 battleship is a VERY nice big mini indeed! I've seen these in gray and green colour schemes, but I never did find a colour I liked till I copied the colour one of our gaming group used, namely Tamiya PS-17 Metallic Green, which you could get in pots and spray cans. I used the spray can, as I find Tamiya acrylic paints a pain in the butt to use. Yes it's a bold colour, but it seems to work with the small highlight colours I used, including the windows! Mark

FASA Gorn SS-3 resin Destroyer and Silent Death original Shyrak Shuttle as Gorn DestroyerThe ship on the left is a resin miniature of the FASA SS-3 destroyer that I got a few years ago on the internet, although I can't remember where! Basic detail, but it captures the spirit of the FASA drawings nicely. The smaller ship on the right is a Silent Death mini, originally called the Shyrak Shuttle. Today, it is still available from here... store.metal-express.net/index.php?main_page=products_all&disp_order=1&page=10...where it no longer has the stubby wings, and has been renamed Prowler. But whatever version you have, the main hull shape fits our criteria for a wedge perfectly. Irregular Miniatures 6SFFC7 Human Ground Attack fighter as Gorn CruiserThis stocky and basic Irregular Miniatures fighter our group used as a Missile Cruiser if I remember correctly. It's slightly different from the wedge design of the FASA vessels, but is sufficiently blocky to fit in with them. Mark

Various SciFi Grav tank designs as Gorn Cruisers!!Here's the surprise I was talking about last year to Gorn about using other minis for the Gorn. Look about for various manufacturers that produce 6mm scale grav tank designs to use as Gorn vessels! This was the idea of one of our gaming group, and he used quite a few manufacturers. If you add cardstock or plasticard nacelles to the main bodies of certain grav tanks, without their seperate turrets, voila, instant Gorn starships! The one on the left is from Scotia Grendel Productions in the UK, and is similar to the model listed as "SF0015 - Light Grav APC" but with square 'nacelles' if you see what I mean. I can't find a pic on the site that matches exactly the mini above, but that one is close. Here is the web address of Scotia Grendel Productions... www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=217_219_24_193_200The one on the right I think originally came from Adler Minis as a Dark Star 6mm Sci Fi tank. That range can now be found at this address... www.darkeststargames.com/6mm-dark-star-sci-fi-range--federation.html...although I can't see an exact match for this mini there now. But a few of the designs there now (September 2016) may still be able to be used as Gorn vessels without the turrets on them, and plasticard nacelles added, as I said earlier. On this Dark Star one above, I've stuck a couple of hex stand posts to show you what it might look like, as I can't find my supply of plasticard at present to make nacelles properly for it. With the sleek lower wedge style of the grav tank hull, it could be used as a modern TMP era Gorn design. I'll try and get proper nacelles on it and get it painted up in the near future. Meanwhile, the picture below shows the SS-3 mini in comparison to the Dark Star mini proxy to show how it matches the Gorn wedge style. FASA Gorn SS-3 resin Destroyer and Adler miniature Dark Star grav tank comparisonHopefully, when I find the proper materials to make the the proper nacelles, this should work. Mark

Micromachines Type 6 TNG Shuttlecraft "Berman" and Type 9/12 Voyager Shuttlecraft as Gorn Cruisers!!Ok, here I am again using other minis at different scales for the Gorn Navy, just like I use Aerotech fighters for Orion and Romulan vessels. As I was getting my BH-2 mini ready to be painted over the last few weeks, I had a sudden thought about using the Micromachine shuttlecraft for Gorn vessels. Primed with grey and then the Metallic Green, hopefully these two shuttlecraft look sufficiently like FASA style Gorn starships! If the Type 9/12 still looks too much like the shuttle, how about flying it upside down as shown below... Micromachines Type 6 right way up and Type 9/12 Shuttlecraft flown upside down as Gorn Cruisers!!I've flown Aerotech minis upside down before for my Romulans, so why shouldn't it work for the Gorns? In fact, if you like both orientations, two vessel classes for the price of one mini! I think the Type 6 looks like an older design, and the Type 9/12 in either guise again looks like a more modern TMP era design. Hopefully this gives you folks some ideas to be creative and expand your FASA Gorn fleets. Like how I've seen swede use a Battletech Farragut class miniature for his BH-3 Battleship design, amongst others, as shown on this thread... ststcsolda.proboards.com/thread/173/theswedes-gorn-shipsAnd hopefully, you'll like these ideas of mine for new Gorn vessel minis for your fleet as well, Gorn! The Micromachines shuttles are still available these days (September 2016) on eBay, and you sometimes find them in small lots containing a few shuttles each. So if you want to copy my practice of converting them, you have them easily to hand at present! Mark

I think the 9/12 shuttle is a little out of step with TMP or inter tmp/tng eras seems more fitting to a mid-late tng design likely given the curves. I figure the gorn eventually hope on the curve wagon at some point

Here are a few more Micromachines minis you might use in your Gorn fleets for everyones perusal. Micromachines Babylon 5 Narn Transport and B5 Crew ShuttleMicromachines Voyager Numiri Patrol VesselFor the top two, you could either use both as Gorn transports (the Narn transport is even a similar colour to match my fleet!), or you could add plasticard nacelles to the Crew Shuttle if you felt like it for another Gorn cruiser design. The bottom mini pic of the Numiri patrol vessel is maybe pushing it away from the basic Gorn wedge shape, but hey, if you like it, it's your game! Mark
