Awright, I tried converting it to .3ds. but that can't be done with 65535 vertices, or something, and converting it to .dxf means I can't see it when I open it up in Gmax. Anything?

I tried putting some .3ds and .obj importer/exporter scripts into plugins, stdscripts and startup folders. Still nothing.

I got the .3ds importer to work, and converted the Royal Sovereign to .mod, but somehow, all the saucer except the bridge module and the front of the stardrive have vanished.
This was after I reduced it to something like 64,000 vertices in Meshlab, so that it WOULD convert to .3ds

I Tried to Shrink the other model you sent me, but Meshlab crashed twice.

What can I do to help? I'm not 100% sure what I can do, but I'm willing to try!

What can I do to help? I'm not 100% sure what I can do, but I'm willing to try! Can you get it to below 65,535 vertices? Perhaps separate the sections into subobjects?

I'm not sure if what I did will help... let me know, I can ask my daughter for help.... she's the one who REALLY knows this stuff... I mostly stumble through

I'm glad to see people churning these out in reasonable scales though. For anything bigger you just have to go "close enough for government work", or gradually downgrade the scale for larger ships (out of scale but still "bigger") to make it look right.
We have a few threads about that. Looks like if you are doing a TNG only scenario then 1/5000 or 1/7000 seems to be about right.

My good friend just pointed me to this thread, since I absolutely love all the TNG-era FASA ships. Great work on the Royal Sovereign! She's beautiful. Just out of curiosity, how much would a 3D print of her cost?

Well, I tried to add an image of the printed version I did from my printer, but my attatchment button has disapeard from my options (on all threads apparently... maybe I got to image happy?)... but if you PM me... I'm willing to share the Royal Sovereigns file also if someone wants it.... I've also updated the bridge to be more inline with the Galaxy class.

Can you make that in 1/3900? It should be the length of the nova (maybe a little longer). I'll message you there.

I don't mean to res a finished thread, and I only lurk, but I had to inject my $0.02 here.
A long time ago I sent Brad my own take on the RS starship. I figured that the bow elevation just plain did not match up *at*all*, so I plotted the lines from the other two views and made my own take on the front. It came out looking rather like the Galaxy since I extrapolated the shape from that the side looked as if the shape was that smushed secondary hull like the Galaxy.
Anyway, the bottom line is that this is a veryextrasupermegaawesomegroovy piece of work, and you are to be commended for your efforts.

For astitics go, this ship looks crappy in the book, but translated here, WOW. That said this thing is a beast in the battlespace. I wouldn't want to face it down. This monster throws a large number of phasers at you. It is a good base of fire ships. I would build my defense line around this beast....
