very nicely done just have to start adding a bridge and other items like an impulse drive and a deflector grid and you've got yourself a nice model there. ;D

There isn't gonna be a bridge module on this ship. There is no bridge on the source image. The bridge is internal.

That is very nice. A small sensor dome in the center of the primary hull top side would be a nice addition its a bit sparse up there. If your not sold on a round deflector how about an elliptical sensor dish? These are just suggestions, your doing a great job as it is. keep it up

I am trying to remain as true as possible to this image. The only "official" image of the Marklin. As you can see, there is no bridge module, no sensor dome, nothing. That is acutally one of the things I like about the ship and I will do nothing to change that. As for the deflector, I'm just not sure I like having it down there. not every ship has a deflector dish so it's not like I'm off the deep end if I don't have one.

Well, it's done. At least, it's as done as I am ever gonna get it. I probably could do more, but its getting large enough that sketchup crashes from time to time working on it. Here are some final images of the finished model. If you use Sketchup, or don't mind downloading it (it's free) the model is in the 3D Warehouse for anyone who wants to see it in 3D. Anyway, enjoy!

That is a fantastic ship there. I wished more had been done with the 4 Powers War.

This is really good!
I am amazed that there can be so good detail in sketchup! Are you using the Free version?

Yes, the free version. It is actually very easy to learn to use. I really only started using to make ships because I had an idea for a ship I designed and wasn't sure how exactly it should look so I decided to mock it up in 3D. From there it spiraled out of control into what you see here.

Hey, I just happened to come across this (so if I am necroposting please forgive me), and all I can say is Wow! This is, at least to me, the definitive version of the Marklin. I have seen the others, but your interpretation shows extra-ordinary insight and thought to the structures, and their details. The Shuttlebay was handled brilliantly, as was both versions of the front structure whether with or without the deflector. So yeah mate... yours is the Marklin for me. Oh and a certain owner of this site, should try and get this drawn out if possible, and added to this most excellent site (hint, hint)

Agreed... this is an excellent interpretation of the original FASA design. The ONLY adjustments I would make, would be to make the top "wedge" section completely smooth, thus eliminating the row of windows at the front of the impulse box, and I would lower the window count on the engineering section. But otherwise, she is perfect... pretty much exactly what I would do, myself, if I took her on. Great work!

Wow. Thanks for the praise. I really do put a lot of work into these models. I tried really hard to integrate the ship with canon ships while remaining true to the original image. Given the limited source material available I had to make a LOT of it from scratch. I'm glad you enjoy it.
bolianadmiral: The Top wedge has detailing in the original image. One of my goals was to remain as true as possible to the official image. Besides, I feel that the wedge would be too bland if it were smooth and flat.
I am actually considering dusting off this file and updating it a bit. I've learned quite a bit about Sketchup since I made this mesh and there are a number of things I could do better. Who knows...
