DC Fontana is arguably more responsible for the success of Star Trek than just about anyone else. She helped build the whole structure of history behind several key characters in her stories.
She was also a key to breaking the glass ceiling in TV/Film writing - a field completely dominated by men (hence "DC" Fontana, instead of "Dorothy Catherine").

May she rest in eternal peace. Among Trek fans of all generations, she will be missed.

May she rest in eternal peace. Talent like that does not come along every day. She will be missed.

She wrote a LOT of TV. Even Logan's Run, Buck Rodgers, He-Man(!), Kung Fu, Six Million Dollar Man, Land of the Lost, and Babylon 5 (and The Waltons... but I totally forgive her).
