It is a great design - and one of my favorites.
Still, I really like how different the D'deridex turned out - really showing off an alien school of thought when it comes to designing a starship.

man when I first saw it in 1988 I thought it was bizarre - why would they have a wide open space in the middle? made no sense to me...

When Andrew Probert designed the ship, he wanted to remain faithful to "rules" of starship design. Back then, the theory was that the engine nacelles had to see each other in order to form a warp bubble (this rule was not always followed, however). It was that open space in the middle that really appealed to me.

thats how ya get a realy massive looking ship .. without it actualy being massive in terms of weight .. immagin the weight o the warbird if it was solid in the middle .. ya would need some pretty good engines to move it tho weight in space isnt realy a factor

Even the Valdore is quite large in terms of dimensions - but have relatively little volume for its size. So the Romulans are either trying to make up for inadequacies in other categories or they use the size of their ships to intimidate their opponents. ;D

They could have just used FASA designs - they owned them, didn't they?? Otherwise FASA should have sued or something over the Wanderer appearing on the computer

That depends. The artist may have still held the rights to whatever they drew. If the artist still had the rights to the images, they could sell them to whomever they wanted. I thought that it was odd that some games came out with FASA style ships but weren't FASA products. Paramount holds the right to the franchise, but may have neglected to grab the rights to the images. The artist of the Wanderer may have been approached by the writers to allow the image.

I love the WD. That, the V-27 & 32 are a lot of fun to play.

The Orion Wanderer, the Winged Defender and the Gallant Wing are all mods you can install in Klingon Academy. Too bad nobody made my BH-2 and MA-12. I like them better than the flying head they have for a Dreadnought.
