What tinker said!
I know, we're probably in the minority (interweb throwbacks!). I just personaly don't see the appeal of Facebook. A thought, though, can the FB group be made visible to non-members? Not everyone does that.

FB group is public. Not sure if that gives people who aren't logged in visibility?

Nope, it's asking me to log into Facebook. But it is possible. Two that I follow are the fan film group Star Trek;New Voyages/Phase II... www.facebook.com/startrekphase2...as well as Amarillo Design Bureaus FB page for the Star Fleet Universe (SFB/Federation Commander etc)... www.facebook.com/pages/Amarillo-Design-Bureau-Inc/231728653279?ref=tsIt's a pity FB doesn't have a function like Blogger, where you can at least leave comments on blogs from various profiles, including of course, Google+. That way, I could comment on FB without actually joining! Mark

Not allowed on FB. Old GF was lookin for me; which my woife didn't appreciate. Was my wife who'd introduced me to the GF in the FIRST place hahaha. Don't see why she'd be nervous - she's far better for me than the ex was, that's for sure!

no Facebook for me. one thing I like about the board is preserving anonymity like the 2005 Internet. I had. a Facebook, got two female stalkers my first week (it's not as fun as it sounds). No more lol.

I'm no socio-phile, but I have found Facebook to be a valuable enough resource to tap, especially for the groups that I belong to. I run my model railroad club through it since the messenger function is considerably faster than email (though I'm notorious for not checking mine every second of every day either). We have a public page that functions as a free website. There we post news on the club; our whereabouts, what we are doing, the show we are going to next, etc. We post pictures of the layout from time to time as well. We have three administrators, the president (me) our vice president, and the social media officer. We also have a private, members only forum where we discuss items pertaining to only members. You have to be invited to join the private group from a member that is already on, and it is controlled by the administrator. I also use it to keep in touch with my gaming groups, but mostly the Battletech group I am currently heading. The Star Trek group has currently been put on hiatus unfortunately, but those of us in that group all share phone numbers to text/talk to each other. Facebook is what you make it. If you put boatloads of information on it, like it asks, then you have to expect to get stuff in return. If you play the myriad of games on it, expect to be inundated with garbage. If you limit yourself to what you need, I.E. join the groups you want, then the rest kind of falls to the side. I happen to like posting pictures of my miniatures, from any of the systems I play. I play one game from time to time, but only because it's a train game. I have taken up to a year off from playing from time to time just because I can. The beauty of Facebook is that you can remain in total anonymity. Use a bogus hotmail account to set up a nom de plume (a name used by a writer other than his/her own name) account. I use my real name because I am also in contact with family that lives far away and I seldom see, but if that isn't your problem, then a fake account is all you need. I'm just saying that in my opinion some people's negativity and disdain for Facebook is generally (not always, but most of the time) unfounded. My mom uses it for the same reasons I stated above. So does one of my friends and several of the older guys in the train club, and they all were dead set against it as well. It is, of course, your choice to be part of it or not. That's the beauty of all this. You set your level of interaction personally. Nobody is holding a phaser to your head. Cheers.

It must be terrible being so good looking ;P Lol not so much. Put it this way some women find my professional degree compelling. But women who stalk suffer from aberrant psychology. One of them was cute enough it was tempting but my dad said something about not sticking something into crazy.
Good advice.

I noticed over on the Facebook group that there is a recently joined member. Could someone here who is in that group post to the newer members there about the forum here. They might not know about us here!
Thanks in advance.

So, we're not a Facebook crowd - how about a Discord server?

There are posts on the facebook group. I'm not sure fragmenting the discussion further to another more in vogue platform is the best idea though for a largely grognard fanbase (myself included!).

Facebook is a horrible walled garden where you are the product, I deleted my account after the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

I'm not a fan of facebook either but it is what it is. If you deleted your account, you can always make another under a pen name and use it exclusively for nerdy things. If you use a VPN for maximum tinfoilhatness, they won't even know where you are. I personally prefer forums as it is almost impossible to track a long term conversation on facebook but that's where folks mainly moved to in the 2010's to discuss all things nerdy so I eventually followed two years ago.

So, we're not a Facebook crowd - how about a Discord server? I know guys that use Discord. I don't, and probably won't ever. My friends use it to do more online game stuff. Since I don't play online games of any kind, it also seems rather pointless. I'm not a huge fan of Facebook and use it so my dad doesn't forget my birthday and for conversations when he heads south for the winter. Its also an easy way to track my game player buddies and model railroad groups. It has its uses I guess. Besides, my tank of a computer (at least the one currently still working) is slow enough watching Youtube as it is. It also has (or had, but it will still do it if I tax it) a nasty tendency to overheat and shut down at inopportune times. I removed a side and put a big house fan next to it. It seems to have helped, but isn't a cure. Since I'm cheap (well, closer to "invested in other pursuits, like acquiring miniatures and model trains"), I plod along with my "Cyber Amish" ways the best I can.
