An alternative reality where Mirror Spock, instead of following Kirk's original suggestion to start changing course on the Terran Empire, he decided to solidify it. When the Mirror Bajoran Wormhole was accidentally discovered in the 2280s the reinvigorated Terran Empire set about to conquer the Prime Universe.
The invasion took the major powers by complete surprise. Hitting right after Praxis was destroyed, the Klingon empire was hit hardest, while the Romulan Empire, still unstable after Praetor Ael i-Mhiessan t'Rllaillieu seized power saw many uprisings including the Remans. Meanwhile the Federation received grievous losses, especially Andor and Vulcan. Despite a desperately heroic resistance a second wave overwhelmed Starfleet defenses and the Terran Empire flag was raised above Starfleet Headquarters.
James T. Kirk, together with a small group of ships slipped deep into enemy territory and was able to seal the Wormhole, trapping the invasion force in our universe without any hope for reinforcements. Kirk then set off to help the Romulans and Klingons who were starting to recover from the attack. The Terran Empire, meanwhile had launched a series of devastating punitive raids on Gorn and Tholian worlds as a deterrent, while opening up talks with the Cardassians. The Cardassians realized that the Terran Empire was not so much interested in a mutually beneficial alliance, but mostly in finding new cannon fodder to further weaken the major powers and allow Imperial forces to finish the job once and for all. The Cardassians politely refused the alliance, remaining "neutral", but still providing covert military aid to the Empire.
Kirk meanwhile was unable to unify the Romulans and Klingons who were still rebuilding after the devastating losses they had incurred in the early days of the invasion. Kirk was able to recruit small numbers of Romulan and Klingon volunteers including captains Kang and Koloth. Kirk assigned his old crew to command several vessels, but during the fighting Spock was reported missing, presumed dead and both Chekov and Scotty were killed in combat. As a result Kirk became more erratic and the mysterious Imperial Admiral sensed an opportunity, trying to lure the Alliance Fleet into a trap near the obscure world of Wolf 359.
The trap was set and the Imperial fleet, outnumbering the Alliance under Kirk moved into position when a Gorn fleet barred their way and threatened the Imperial fleet with annihilation if they continued. At the same time Kirk's fleet entered the system, reinforced with Romulan and Klingon battlefleets that had assembled in secret. Kirk offered them one last chance to surrender, but the Imperial fleet was prepared to die to the last man. Spock, Chekov and Scotty were still alive and Kirk's apparent erratic behaviour was simply a ruse. Together with a hand-picked squadron, Kirk and the Enterprise A went into pursuit of the Imperial Admiral in an attempt to stop the Empire by beheading the leadership.
The Imperial commander turned out to be David Kirk, Mirror Kirk's son who was burning for revenge for what had been done to his father. He had murdered Spock and launched the invasion and would fight to the death. Ironically one of his most trusted subordinates was the Mirror Kruge, brutal even by Klingon standards.

The CDS Rhebari was a military observer sent by the Cardassians, the ship will defend itself and warp out as soon as they receive more than 25% superstructure damage.
In the Mirror universe Spock's reforms had some consequences, because he was giving priority to consolidating the empire, ship technology stagnated and ships such as the Constitution II, the L24 or the Excelsior were not available, the Mirror universe had to make do with older models such as Dreadnoughts, Constitutions and the top secret Khan class Battleship. Yet they proved to be vicious opponents and often took Federation ships by surprise and overwhelming them with numbers.
The battle was brutal, the Klingon squadrons squared off each other while the Federation supported by the Romulans engaged the Imperial ships. The Heydrich was taken down by the Excelsior, while the Talaat Pasha was defeated by Courageous with help from the Nimitz and Geronimo. The Rhebari fled when Kang turned his guns on them. The Enterprise A, already damaged during the duel with her sister ship Grim Enterprise and Kruge's L9, was viciously assaulted by David Kirk's Khan, which resulted in massive damage including the loss of the starboard warp engine. Kirk ordered the general evacuation and with a skeleton crew baited the Khan so that Spock could move into position and finish them off, but the Khan was able to fire one last volley and ravaged the bridge, killing Montgomery Scott instantly while Kirk received mortal injuries. Incapacitated, McCoy was too late to save his life.
With their command devastated and the Gorn threatening to attack, the Imperial fleet surrendered.
The crippled Enterprise A, carrying Kirk and Scott's bodies limped on impulse past the Alliance fleet forming a guard of honour. Koloth was heard saying "Glory is measured by the strength of your opponent, today the Klingon empire is greatly diminished by the loss of one who was both our worst enemy and our greatest ally."
