Both Pine and Hemsworth are making VERY good money on other projects (they're both in demand) so... Parascrooge needs to cough up enough scratch to get them on board. This is the cost of doing business in the current mess that is Hollyweird.

Yeah Paramount needs to get their Chit together. I mean it is extremely hard to make a trek show that everyone will enjoy, let alone a movie. Then add that the ST:4 movie is practically in shambles at this point. And on top of that they are getting sued for plagiarism... I just shake my head.

Maybe they should have gone with CLASSIC Trek people like TNG cast brought on as consultants, with Burton or Thomas directing, maybe DC Fontana, Koenig or some of the others as storywriters. Maybe DON'T go with hollywierd script writers. Just sayin', DUMBASS Paramount.

^ Ohh... but that would cost actual MONEY! Paramorons can't handle the idea of "spending money, to make money".
CBS is equally guilty of the same offense...

Paramounts finances are in the Can. They can’t spend the big bucks on jj trek anymore as it wasn’t pulling in the big bucks on return. Im not the biggest fan of the new stuff so I’m not that troubled if 4 doesn’t get made. Perhaps if they make a smaller budgeted film they can start making a decent profit on them.

Hire the Axanar guys!
Cheap, far closer to canon than JJ Trek, it'll sell, and it'll make the millions of fans hate them less.

As much as I would LOVE for cbs to respect 50 years of trek canon, I just don’t see a true prequel series having mass public appeal. CBS/paramount know this as well, that’s why discovery is such a mess. They wanted a new exciting trek for new viewers, but they made the incredibly stupid decision to Place it less then 10 years from the most popular trek time period, redesign everything and mess with classic characters in what I believe is needless tampering in An attempt to to make their new characters appealingly and interesting. This way they thought they could have there cake and eat it too, appealing to new viewers and catching the old trek fans by stating its prime timeline. What a load of crap. I’m fine with new trek, just don’t try passing it off as if it all fits together. I think Trek is best when it pushes forward not jumping back to a period already established just to muck about with no regard to past examples of the time. At least jj trek had sense to make a new timeline.

"At least jj trek had sense to make a new timeline." That's actually the best thing to be said about JJDrek. Something I had never considered.

Well, this should put a smile on a few faces. LINKMr. Moonves is a big reason for the state of Trek on TV

Yep - heard about that this morning (had to run to work so...).
It's still unclear what will happen if the Viacom/CBS merger does go through. There's a chance that Bob Bakish (Viacom's CEO) could be in charge instead of Joe Ianniello (who has enemies in both companies).
No telling what would happen with Star Trek after that.

Welp - looks like things could be changing over at CBS: Les Moonves is outWhat this means for anything Star Trek remains to be seen. It's not clear if the Redstone's will try to force the Viacom/CBS merger to happen (they are "rearranging" the board) or, if they are going to seek a buyer for CBS alone. Either way, where does Star Trek go?
