"...It would destroy such life, in favor of its new matrix." - Captain Spock
I've let the Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator On-Line Database & Archive lay fallow for roughly five years now. During which time I've gotten very busy with my life. For the most part I've left things well enough alone, but there does come a time when it seems best to just sweep the deck. Clear the bridge. Begin all over again. Et cetera.
I know a lot of the old forum members had a lot invested in the board. Hopefully most of the regulars will find this new forum, and be engaged.
The reason I went Genesis Device is simple: the old forum was not "Sub-Odeon's Board" at all, and there didn't seem to be any way to convert the URL without rebuilding from scratch. Plus, we had a lot of "dead weight" on the old board: dead threads, inactive users, and rather than trying to re-parse everything and offload the dry wood to an archive or other storage area, it just seemed easiest to close up shop, and begin again with a new, similarly-functional storefront.
As with the previous forum, the new forum is more about you all, as players, gamers, fans, and friends, than it is about me. I cannot promise that I will be around any more in the future than I have been in the recent past. My life is still very, very busy. And it doesn't look like it will get any less busy any time soon.
But, having delayed this "refresh" for far too long, I am glad I did it. And I hope those of you who made it a habit of participating in the old forum won't hold it against me for hitting the reset switch.

I don't think anyone will hold it against you Sub. I may not be a young mind, but I appreciate fresh ideas.

Thanks, Swede. I've been pulling my hand away from the reset switch over and over again since 2010. Today, I finally said to myself, there's no sense delaying the inevitable. I am hoping most or all of the regulars will be back, and that we can move forward with the new board under the new URL.

Hi Brad
I take it we all have to register again for the new forum?
I was in a bit of a panic when I suddenly couldn't get into the forum. I've been querying with a few of the Yahoo Groups about any problems. Having just found the new place, I've updated the yahoo Groups I was talking to, hope you don't mind.

I am glad to see the board is still here, but man you sent a wave of panic out with the SUDDENNESS of this switch. Now you see it, now you don't.
Certainly do not hold it against you, but man so much info, especially in terms of player created ships has now went POOF, I can get a sense of how some might not be too happy about that.
If anything, perhaps it would have been good to allow people to have captured all that player made ship data before pulling the plug? Those forums may have been the only repository for a lot of player made ships.
I have a feeling some of the more prolific ship builders may not be terribly happy over this.

Hopefully, people will be able to repost any of their schematics/stats again if they feel the need.
I see where Brad was coming from, as there WAS a lot of stuff that was getting lost among the trees! A thought might be that if you want to post new designs, maybe people could keep their respective designs in one "Empire" thread ("trynda1701's Orion vessels", "trynda1701's Federation vessels" etc). That might stop the clutter as time goes on, plus, as you update your own threads, you will still be able to see the earlier designs. Kind of like how IanKeldon and JAFisher were posting their schematics. if you see what I mean?
Just a thought.

If the shipbuilders do not repost, then yea it would appear that data is lost.
I am hoping they will want to repost (and actually kept copies for themselves so they can repost). Its quite a gamble in that regard. /crosses fingers

First rule of BBSing, which I learned in 1991: never, ever assume anything you post to any forum, is permanent. Keep copies. Just in case. I know a lot of stuff was potentially lost, but I am assuming people kept copies? I'm also hoping that some of the material will reappear here. Perhaps in "greatest hits" form?

Mark Well, "panic" is indeed exactly what I felt last night as I suddenly realized something was wrong. Luckily, Brad was up and patiently explained that he'd pushed the big red button. I think that's rather telling of just how emotionally attached I've become to this forum. No hard feelings from me! I'm just happy we have a brand new ship..sorta like the ending of ST IV. ;D

Oh speaking if URLs....I used to always use the link on the XON Gaming site to get here. They will need to update the link.
hehe and yes, I have developed an attachment to this forum as well. I would go nuts if the only place to talk Trek starships was the ADB forums..,those are so buttoned down and sterile as to make me feel I was wearing a forum straight jacket.
Yea its true, forums are not really a proper means of long-term data storage. (why I long ago started downloading everything, and storing in CDs/DVDs if I found files on a site of great interest)
Anyway, glad to see the forums up, all shiny and clean, thanks for keeping this place going Mr. Torgersen.

Brad Any problem with me posting the new url on any forums I frequent? Mark Please do. And my apologies for the abruptness of the change. Of course, the OLD&A itself is the same, none of the URLs for the ships pages have changed. ;D

Brad Any problem with me posting the new url on any forums I frequent? Mark Right, I've updated the following places about the forum move... Yahoo GroupsMorena, Mustaka, TheFASAStarTrekUniverseE-group, UFC465537, Star Trek Technology plusThe Minatures Page (TMP), TrekRPGNet (FASA sub board) and of course, Starship Combat News Thats the places I frequent that I thought would either have a FASA presence, or would get the news out to as wide an audience as possible. Hope this helps. Mark

Hello, everyone. Glad to find the forum is back up and running.
So it looks like i will have to re-post all the Kephan Unity posts originally put up. Apologies to all for not keeping up with them and keeping them fresh. Unfortunately, I have to deal with the affects of both Asperger's Syndrome and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) within my brain. At the very least, they play havoc with the creative process and aggravate procrastination and perfectionism.
Doesn't make one a happy camper.
Thank you all for your feedback and your patience. Onward and upward!
