Don't want to disrupt Trynda's magic thread, but these are some good references for "Close enough for government work" on scale.
That is, within close enough scale that it's silly to quibble about it.
BoardGamegeek thread on Attack wing scales:
boardgamegeek.com/thread/1035436/definitive-scale-thread-everything-you-wanted-know
Micromachines scale chart:
userpages.bright.net/~jackbohn/sf/micromac.htm
Eaglemoss starship scales:
memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Official_Starships_Collection
From this you can get: Micro machines enterprise= about 1:3770 (damn closed to 1/3900 or a range from 3700 to 3900) Eaglemoss excelsior=about 1:3470
Result: Close enough you would hardly notice on the board.
This approach works well for different empires and different ships within the same faction. It breaks with the same ship of the same faction or if they have too many components together. But even then from a distance it would be hard to tell, you just can't make an attack wing Klingon raptor work with micromachines without a lot of imagination.
I built my fleet from this with some precise shapeways and Woomera shipyards purchases! Pictures soon.

Nice reference lists. If anyone else finds any sources for scale, this will be a nice place to post them. May I ask JAFisher44 to pin this thread for reference purposes please?

Subeheading: scale guides/rules of thumb...
Excelsior, Abassador and Galaxy class warp engines are roughly the same length.
A Klingon D-7, places on top of a constitution/enterprise, if you match the Klingon pod to the Federation bridge, the Klingon nacelles end 3/4 the length of the enterprise engines.
Any tricks for "eyeballing" romulan ships?

Does anyone have the Furuta USS Stargazer? is it micro-machine size? (Want to replace the yellow shipped once captained by pee-card).

Furuta is WAY Too big! The "heroclix" stargazer is the smallest ship I have ever seen.
IT's a shame, I think a "true scale" version of starships with something huge like teh Romulan D'Daridex or neg'var capping the scale at 5-6" would be great.

Furuta ship scales: memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/FurutaThe furuta Nebula and Galaxy classes are plentiful and cheap and almost use the same dimensions, or are so close you can't tell them apart. These seem to be the perfect scale for mixing in with the FASA models, i.e they "look" bigger and represent a progressive downscale without losing too much detail.
