I'm still having unplayable problems with slightlysilly.net game version. It doesn't matter which resolution I use; I get the ship off-center in the shielding hex (which isn't so bad) but I cannot power the aft shields because they're too low on the screen! I also can't read the right hand side of the shield indicator or anything else on the far right because that's cut off too!
It ran fine on my old monitor, but not the widescreen LCD! I've tried it on 1680 x 1050, 1600 x 900, 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768 ...nothing worx!
Does anyone have a method of fixing this? I need my FASA fix... even if the enemy ship CAN fire everything in one phase.

You might check the config app for your video card and see if you can force a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Also you might look in the same app for any 'display scaling' setting (these are present in ATI Catalyst Control Center (not sure for Nvidia and other cards), in there you can alter display scaling with DVI/digital monitors, inc aspect ratio.
For an analog monitor it offers a size & position adjustment tool

Nope - tried those. Aspect ratio surprisingly did NOTHING different in terms of game! aft shield is STILL unreachable and right side text still unreadable. And to top that all off, I had to return my monitor to fullscreen and move all my icons back into position. Dammit.
Can we get Robinson or whoever made it to make scrollbars or something??

Before the SlightlySilly forum went down, there was a discussion about a windowed version at various resolutions. Jason said that the game was not designed to be windowed. He never got around to changing that.

trying DxWnd - won't even start the game! Looks like it will need a bunch of boxes checked. Will have to let you know combo that worx. If we could get Jason to figure it out just by looking, since he presumably knows what he wrote...
Does anyone know him? On a direct reply e-mail basis?
LATER EDIT: set it to run using DX 9 then the game runs the exact same as without the frikkin program! Looks like DxWnd is gonna have a hard time forcing this one into a window.
Well, I tried all the buttons I could think of. Nothing works. It seems to be a little better, but I still can't get it to run in a window,I STILL cant get to the bottom shield to power it, and I had to leave the game since I couldn't get to the continue button after repairing.
Game doesn't even start using the other program. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!

Ok, last thing to do...
Go to Goodwill..by a cheap 4:3 square LCD monitor that will prolly do 1280x1024 max, use that for the game. Problem solved (and is probably chearer in time-savings) .
Cheap 17-19" LCD at Goodwill are common. (Yea I know..having the program work is better, but running out of ideas), I see these all the time there for $20.

shrug...laugh if you will ...that has a better chance of working than Jason Robinson actually showing up and updating the program. LOL
so good luck :-) Sounds like you need it.

I'm not going to go out and get a monitor I threw away cos its emitting dam radiation. I don't have the space for a second monitor, and I don't want the hassle of plugging it in. If Robinson can't be bothered to solve a little problem like this then he should make the code AVAILABLE FOR OTHERS. Real apathy there, J.

Having the source code probably won't help since the underlying toolkit predates all these wide screen monitors with busted scalers. The entire application will need to be recoded largely from scratch. Anyone who feels competent enough to fix up someone else's code should be competent enough to create a new program inspired by the old.

How'd you get it working? I had it running fine, then my PC's HD crapped out. I can't seem, to get it running on the new PC.
Both are WIN X machines.

I would think it would be authentic to the franchise. After all, many ships in Star Trek have been portrayed in the wrong size for years!
