How do you all entice new players into ST: STCS? I'm not having any luck...
So far, I have managed to put together gaming groups for: Battletech Mechwarrior 1st ed Villains & Vigilantes revised Big Eyes, Small Mouth 2nd ed Mobile Frame Zero Silent Death
Hero Kids (the adults actually loved it... so weird)
And have been a member of a play group for Shadowrun Mekton Z+ Pathfinder
But, although I have a gaming group full of Star Trek fans, I cannot get them to take the dive into ST:STCS. The reason they give is that it is TOO COMPLEX. They played Battletech and Shadowrun, two of the crunchiest games I have ever played, but won't come close to the comparatively easy ST: STCS. Sure, building a ship is a total pain, but actual game-play is a snap.
Any thoughts?

Weird. How about phrasing it like this:
There's three things you do: Power Allocation, Movement, and Firing, then repeat the Movement and Firing a few times.
Bam. Bam. Bam.
Done.
Maybe there's just something about olde Trek that turns them off.

What methods have you used? Social media is one thing, but how are you for local game ships or wargaming clubs? WAY back when (1989-90), I was trying to get new players for playing the FASA RPG, and left flyers in a few of our local game stores. One of the players who answered it had the STSTCS game, and took me to one of the local wargames clubs. The rest is history (and LOTS of minis!) The old fashioned method might work if you haven't already tried it. Although I understand these days, Friendly Local Games Stores are becoming rarer! But you might be luckier with wargames clubs or gaming clubs (they do exist). EDIT: And having re-read your original post, my sleep addled brain is realising your ACTUAL problem! The above still applies to players who need new players! Hmmm, Meteo Ascension is right about the simplicity of the basic game. One thing, have they given you reasons beyond just it's 'too complex'. I agree with what you say about Battletech. Although it was another player who was REALLY into it, I've played my share of games, even if I didn't go as mad on Mech minis as FASA Trek minis! Maybe they've seen Star Fleet Battles being played, and assume STSTCS games are as complex?

I play all these games at the Local Game Store with a group of really good gamers. I am also thinking they are thinking Star Fleet Battles. I really like the way Meteo Ascension Ascension broke it down. I'm gonna give that a try (assuming any of us survive, or there is a LGS to go back to). Thanks guys.
