I watched the first episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks.
It reinforced my theory that CBS is going out of their way to destroy Star Trek.

I don't think they are TRYING to destroy it, it's just that they have no clue what Star Trek is actually about and are therefore - grasping at straws...
Just try a little of everything and see if it works! Throw enough scheiße at the wall and some of it will stick!

The YouTube lady reviewer "Mecharandom 42" has been going over the series with a fine tooth comb. End result: Gene Roddenberry would be spinning in his grave faster than a CD in a CD player! In sequence, here are her reviews for the current episodes: Episode One: youtu.be/X-i16kN9RdMEpisode Two: youtu.be/Kz2THKB-gToEpisode Three: youtu.be/inzz0D8ofm4Episode Four: youtu.be/CuWEA5FmsWwGod help us all!

May the Great Bird of the Galaxy strike them down!
Wasn't Roddenberry shot into space? I wonder if he's still up there to point straight toward CBS HQ?

We're it just incompetence, they would have screwed up and made something likable by now...
Oh well... I still have TOS on DVD, and TNG and DS9 are still on Netflix, so I am good to go.

I don't watch the show as I didn't find the trailers funny in the slightest but I finally like a completely original ship design in nuTrek! There have been a few that I've tolerated but the new Vancouver class is the first one that I genuinely like. It's not perfect as I think the impulse engines are obscenely large but I think it both fits into existing asthetics while still doing some new things. It took three years and four seasons.

I think they are going to "Rick and Morty", which wouldn't be *that* bad if they respected the creative spark in Trek. It's all the woke that bothers me. Rick and Morty has a disrespectful edge to it. One they are too timid to commit to. They could do that with Trek but not in 1/2 measures so it just falls flat.
Unless modern humor has just left me behind.

To be honest while I dont consider Lower Decks BAD I do overall like it for a time killer and a few laughs. There are some genuine good funnies in there from past trek lore.

I watched one episode and couldn't take any more even having downloaded the series - compared to the animated series I didn't find it was even close to the spirit of ST. I think I'm the wrong audience but the younger audience (my kids) just aren't interested so who on earth is it for? The woke stereotypes are too obvious & annoying, take the TNG lower decks episode that was excellent and I didn't even notice the gender or race of the lower ranks as everyone was a believable character who I was invested in within 40 minutes. The know it all daughter of the captain is just meh. Just a badly drawn Mikey Spock clone.

Ok the Riker and Deanna Troi cameos may have won me over. Frapping hilarious.

Revisted this series and then binge watched the whole thing.
ON a second viewing, the initial episodes went too far trying to be wacky. yes it is annoying that Mariner knows/has partied with almost every major character in star fleet. However they subverted that later on by showing she has been a trouble maker everywhere.
I actually got a lot from one of the later episodes, Boimler gets involved in a group of lower deckers who are only concerned with promotion. They practice wearing the uniform and giving speeches, you know, all the rhetorical aspects of leadership. Later on this was contrasted to great effect with Boimler's proficiency and practical experience.
Give it a watch! It's a light hearted star trek but I think it's heart is in the right place (mostly after episode 5).
