I finally finished a Ground Assault supplement, a set of companion rules to go with Boarding Actions and Planetary Assault supplements. Honestly its not as streamlined as I would've liked and I did change a few things compared to the other two rule sets. Anyhoos, for the warmongers out there- enjoy! Just go to the files section. Also I added some new links- special shout out to Mark_XON for his help! ufc465537.neocities.org/index.html

Thanks!
Mark_XON gets the credit for the web site. Hes put a lot of work into designing and updating it. I do what I can, but hes the wizard behind the curtain.
The spreadsheets- just a heads up- are a bit old and clunky. Im not an Excel expert by any means, but please do enjoy them!

That was Ironnerd - and Gorn (I know you're out there) is the cause...

There are things going on behind the scenes, starcruiser; mostly due to a long history. If ironnerd had nothing to say to me, I would have nothing to say to him; no need to run off. He's done this before and returned. * * * * ufc465537 I made some simplified boarding/landing party mechanics in my house rules. ststcsolda.proboards.com/thread/169/gorns-house-rules Are they faster than yours due to simplification of numbers? Are your rules more engaging; and thus offering a refreshing break from starship combat, what do you think?

All, I just wanted to drop in and say that I had a lot of fun on this forum, and that you are all, without exception, a fantastic group of people. Gorn has said nothing as of late to offend or annoy me. Recently, however, it has become clear that he and I are just not compatible, and I felt that one of us needed to step away. Since Gorn was here first, I figured I should be the one to drop out. Fortunately, we have the Facebook Group where I can discuss Trek and STSTCS with most of you guys ( JAFisher44 has my Earth-name). Since Gornβs wife does not allow him on Facebook, the incompatibility issue should be resolved. Take care guys, yaβll rock.

OIC *** Yours seem definitely simpler. I tried for simple, but things balloon out of control when I tried to accomdate player responses lol!
Mine is based on a different set of starship combat rules, so i guess its kinda comparing apples to oranges. It wouldnt be too hard to incorporate into the standard stcs, I guess, but anyways...
I had trouble following the math for your boarding party example. Maybe walk through it for the mathematically challenged (like me!)? And Im not sure what the personnel ratings and all that meant.
Thanks!

I made a rule set called starship combat II, its on my site for download if you wanna check it out. The ships and weapons are generic, so combat is quicker (in theory at least). Theres a couple supplements based on those rules, ground assault is the last one.

Yes, welcome back, @ironnerd. I wonder what we would have got if FASA had been allowed to publish their planned Marines supplement back in the day? Obviously, there are troop and vehicle numbers mentioned in the SRM stats for assault ships, but what stats and game mechanics might we have seen in such a supplenment?

I expect that the game mechanics would have been very similar to those in the Battletech supplement Battletroops. Battletroops came out in 1989 but hadn't been mentioned in Battletech advertising from what I recall until just before release. Battletroops has its own combat mechanics and move system which do not match with the established MechWarrior and BattleTech systems. All in all, it has the feel of a hasty reskinning of a canceled product into the Battletech universe.

A couple of years after FASA lost the Trek licence, I played a few games of Centurion, the antigrav tank game from the Renegade Legion background, also published by FASA. I might also have played one game of their starship combat game. I believe all the Legion games were linked in some way (although I'm willing to stand corrected). So perhaps a FASA Starfleet Marine supplement might somehow have been a combination of the RPG and STSTCS games? Was it the "Marine" supplement or "Operation:Armageddon" that was rumoured to have a manuscript almost completed when FASA lost the licence, I can't remember.

Was it the "Marine" supplement or "Operation:Armageddon" that was rumoured to have a manuscript almost completed when FASA lost the licence, I can't remember. Both supplements were completed enough to warrant advertising in the FASA catalogs. I believe they were also available for pre-order from stores (which has to get the order done months in advance). I believe the were actually submitted to Paramount for final approval when Roddenberry (or a suspected assistant) threw a monkey wrench into the process for licensed works. DC Comics and Pocket Books ran into issues of pre-approval as well after TNG started. A friend of mine had been offered by the game designers a beta test of Operation: Armageddon before it was released. He turned them down unfortunately because he didn't have the players to help him test at the time. He told me that he later regretted turning down the opportunity to contribute. This conversation was years after the license had been lost but before LUG obtained a license. Perhaps he would have given me the materials since he wasn't keeping a lot of his collection. (holds up fingers) That close. Someone out there on other mailing lists or messages boards mentioned that they have a pre-published draft of the Ground Forces Manual. I really wish it could escape into the wilds for fans of the FASA team to enjoy. It seems a shame not to appreciate the work that went into it.

I think it would be a neat project to try to reverse engineer the marine supplement using the battletech rules as a guide. I never had much use for those rules personally, but I suspect they may be fairly compatible with FASATREK.

BATTLETECH?? I love it, but it's crun-CHAY! I'm in.
OK... so being fully OCD, I did some converting. I am likely WAY off from what ufc465537 had in mind, but it was a fun gamer-nerd exercise.
First, Battletech is 2d6 versus ST:STCS's d10. Not a difficult conversion:
2d6......1d10 2........1-10 3........1-10 4........1-9 5........1-8 6........1-7 7........1-6 8........1-4 9........1-3 10.......1-2 11.......1-1 12.......1-1
2d6......ODDS.....1d10 2+.......100%......1+ 3+........97%......1+ 4+........92%......2+ 5+........83%......3+ 6+........72%......4+ 7+........58%......5+ 8+........42%......7+ 9+........28%......8+ 10+.......17%......9+ 11+........8%......10 12.........3%......10
The, the ranges need to be converted to firing tables. RNG.... A........ B........ C........ D....... E....... F......RNG 1...... 02-10.... 02-10.... 02-10.... 05-10... 08-10... 06-10...1 2...... 04-10.... 02-10.... 02-10.... 04-10... 07-10... 05-10...2 3...... 07-10.... 02-10.... 02-10.... 03-10... 06-10... 04-10...3 4................ 04-10.... 02-10.... 02-10... 05-10... 03-10...4 5................ 04-10.... 02-10.... 02-10... 04-10... 02-10...5 6................ 04-10.... 04-10.... 02-10... 03-10... 02-10...6 7................ 07-10.... 04-10.... 04-10... 02-10... 02-10...7 8................ 07-10.... 04-10.... 04-10... 04-10... 02-10...8 9................ 07-10.... 04-10.... 04-10... 04-10... 04-10...9 10......................... 04-10.... 04-10... 04-10... 04-10..10 11......................... 07-10.... 04-10... 04-10... 04-10..11 12......................... 07-10.... 04-10... 04-10... 04-10..12 13......................... 07-10.... 07-10... 04-10... 04-10..13 14......................... 07-10.... 07-10... 04-10... 04-10..14 15......................... 07-10.... 07-10... 07-10... 04-10..15 16................................... 07-10... 07-10... 04-10..16 17................................... 07-10... 07-10... 07-10..17 18................................... 07-10... 07-10... 07-10..18 19............................................ 07-10... 07-10..19 20............................................ 07-10... 07-10..20 21............................................ 07-10... 07-10..21 22..................................................... 07-10..22 23..................................................... 07-10..23 24..................................................... 07-10..24
You may have noticed the the D, E, and F range brackets are inaccurate close in. In Battletech, these weapons have Minimum ranges. At or below this minimum range, the weapons are difficult to target.
Finally, the weapons table needs to be converted.
................................................DAMAGE MODIFIERS WEAPON... FIRING CHART... ENERGY... DAMAGE..... +1....... 0....... -1 Flamer......... A.......... 1-3.....= NRG....... 1....... 2...... 3 Large Laser.... C.......... 1-8.....= NRG....... 1-5..... 6-10... 11-15 Medium Laser... E.......... 5*...... 8.......... 1-7..... 8-14... 15-21 LRM 20......... E.......... 6*...... 10......... 1-7..... 8-14... 15-21
SRM 2.......... B.......... 2*...... 3.......... 1-3..... 4-6.... 7-9 SRM 4.......... B.......... 3*...... 5.......... 1-3..... 4-6.... 7-9 SRM 6.......... B.......... 4*...... 7.......... 1-3..... 4-6.... 7-9
the "*" indicates Energy to arm weapon.
Bettletech does not have "Energy" as a game mechanic, but does have "Heat". I just swapped heat for energy. I guess the ground units will have larger engines that have weight equal to the normal reactor plus the heat sinks. Swapping heat and energy also limits movement, jumping, and pilot modifiers (instead of being too hot to function, the unit will be forced to temporarily deactivate systems)

The Battletroops mechanics are very simple. Each figure is given 10 damage points and has 8 movement points. For MechWarrior weapons, each die of damage yields one Battletroops damage point. The equivalent results in FASA STRPG would mean that each Battletroops damage point would need about 5 FASA damage points. Battletroops already includes both lethal and stun damage meaning the only real change would be that phasers could switch between damage types.
Battletroops uses an Igo-Ugo method; one player moves one figure then another and one by one until all have either moved or decided to stay in place and then the other player gets to do the same. There are opportunity fire chances in response to each move.
The whole system is much easier than either Battletech or the FASA STRPG combat system befitting Battletroops role as Squad Leader in the future.

Math isn't my strong point. Please explain this chart. Is a 2 on the 2d6 the equivalent of a 10 on the d10? I don't understand the "1-10" portion of the chart. Is this for the RPG? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. I just hope there isn't any imaginary numbers involved (shudder).
