The conspicuous lack of the FJ designs in the FASA books makes me think that there must have been some sort of licensing conflict. The Nelson is very similar to the Saladin/Hermes design but even that was changed slightly by splitting the Pylon in two. If I had to guess I'd bet that Star Fleet Battles had the exclusive right to use the FJ designs for their game.

I've got a lot of registry work ahead of me. Seven ships that all need registries added. Then I can get final renders for these posts and upload them all to the Sketchup Warehouse.

License may have been an issue, yes, but wouldn't that license have covered the Connie class as well, for the games?...just a thought that came to mind...

Looking forward to seeing the end results I've discovered Sketchup now, and found some of the other fantastic models you've created. What I'm unclear about (as I can't find any specific explanation on the 3D Warehouse) is the licence terms for download and use of your models? I would like to download suitable models and use them to create images of the starships which will appear in my ST:RPG campaign, but I don't wish to overstep any restrictions on how these models can be used, as I appreciate all the that must have gone into creating them. Any chance you could clarify for me what kind of use is permitted please? |

I would not be surprised if they were willing to give exclusive rights to secondary I.P.s like the Franz Joseph designs but withhold exclusivity for the Constitution and other canon designs. |

Feel free to use them to create images for your campaign. I draw the line at commercial use. If you decide to publish and sell your campaign using my work we can talk about compensation. If you are just using it yourself and giving copies to a few of your friends, go ahead. I understand that putting my work on the warehouse opens me up to I.P. theft. Believe me, I've found lots of people selling my work on Shapeways and have had to file DMCA takedowns to get them to remove them. I really appreciate that you have the integrity to ask. |

That's fully understood, thanks. I'm genuinely only looking to create some images for my own enjoyment, in a solo RPG campaign. So it's just for me, nobody else and nothing commercial at all. Great work, and thanks for sharing it with others within the restrictions you have explained |
