Kephan Unity - Tango Class VI Multi-Role Frigate

Greetings everyone! So today I happened to have off work, and in a surprise turn around so too did my college buddy Brandon! He's the guy that built the crazy Charger's Price ship. So while chatting about our last campaign with the Unity we got on the point about my alter-ego R'Archer the Andorian Fleet Admiral here on the forums. Brandon and I inquired how R'Archer might react and approach the issue of the Tordell within a few years range of the Unity and how to combat/prepare for it. So with that in mind we/R'Archer set out to design a rugged multi-role/purpose frigate design. Using Orion technologies for easy purchase then modified in house by the Unity for this class. The idea was to produce a multi-purpose ship able to be easily maintained by the Unity with supplies and materials easily procured from their allies or within their own borders. In short it would be the first truly unique design built by the Unity without influence of hull design from other powers. For ease of use I've included only that ship information I felt was truely needed. As best as we both can tell using the expanded ship construction rules we got the correct numbers all around.
In the aftermath of the Unity's exploration into the Ur Region of space the HHS Pride Of Fire had found a wormhole that lay deep into claimed space by a powerful empire called the Tordell. This empire it seems had poorer sensors then the Unity had on hand but all around otherwise had mostly superior technologies and resources. Fleet Admiral R'Archer after reading the reports and scans of the Pride Of Fire's crew decided that someone had to take action to grow the Unity's naval presence beyond just using knock off, retired, or traded ships. Further given the Unity's limited space of minerals despite having several systems rich in resources, the ability to mass produce technologies of the Klingon, Romulan, Federation, and Orion ships they used was limited. R'Archer felt it was about time someone built the Unity a unique ship of their own. One which would be easy enough to build, maintain, refit over time, and repair if needed from the various sources at hand for the Unity.
To this end R'Archer called in all the major ship building firms for the Unity. He laid out in detail what he wanted and the provisions the designers had to work with. 1) The ship had to mass at least 60,000 mt but no more than 80,000 mt. 2) The ship had to use easily modified or obtained systems from the Unity's various trade partners or within their own borders. 3) It had to be rugged and capable of multiple mission profiles both combat, diplomatic, or exploration. 4) It had to be capable of easy mass production. 5) It had to be in production no later than February of 2267. 6) Finally its total crew had to be under 100 and the cost per ship not to exceed 750 MCr. However R'Archer did not openly tell the shipbuilders why he was setting such strict standards for the combat role, simply replying that it was a matter of Intelligence for now.
Once these guidelines were in place, the designers each went on their way ready to outdo the others for the contract to build this multi-role frigate. It of course did not take long for all the major ship building firms in the Unity to begin bickering and plotting against the other and many were the late night break ins carried out on each other in corporate espionage. In the end after six months no true progress had been made when R'Archer got wind of the current progress, or lack thereof. Infuriated he called all the design leads back in and in a show of force slammed both his angry fists through his wooden table shocking everyone in attendance. He told them part of the truth of this possible threat to the Unity and her allies. He then told them that if this bickering like children and bullies did not stop no one would get the contract and he would use his own family connections within the Andorian Imperial Guard to get the class built for him! After departing all the designers so shook up by the Andorians outburst that they all went drinking long into the night finally agreed whlie bonding over the next morning hangover breakfast to put their personal greed and issues aside for the betterment of the KUSN.
Now united the ship firms soon made amazing progress and by March of 2266 during another of his surprise inspections on progress R'Archer was surprised to be presented not with a small scale replica of the frigate to come but three fully built ready to be trial tested prototypes! Performance of the frigate was above even the strict expectations of the Andorian Fleet Admiral. Coming in actually UNDERWEIGHT for the proposed class VI vessel, the designers made up the difference by effective layering of overlapping armor plating, even then the ships were still barely over the minimum weight for the class at just under 63,000 MTs. The class also had surprisingly roomy accommodations to provide the crew many recreational and personal comforts on long assignments. Further each ship only had to be manned by 75 crew in total and provisions were made to allow extra passengers or a couple squads of Marines in the case of need. The frigate's computer core was the longest held off in planning due in part to the designers taking development of the Orion built Mark 4 computer just released for general use earlier that year. The designers had found ways to build redundancy into the core's operation in case of combat above normal Mark 4's built by the Orions, dubbed the KUM-4. The ship was then powered at warp by the long time Orion's go to warp system the OWA-2 made famous for its use on the Wanderer class blockade runner. The Unity's designers though retrofitted the core system to be far more fuel efficient allowing the ship to operate longer at cruising speeds up to warp 7 and with an impressive emergency speed of warp 8 for almost a day! Dubbed the KUWA-2 the system delivered impressive handling and power at all requests. Secondary power was built off the original Orion OID-2 impulse engine system. As with all other systems the Unity modified it so instead of operating as one single impulse engine, they divided its power production into two smaller engines. This allowed the system to operate at half motive power at sublight speeds if the other half was damaged or knocked out, this system was in turn dubbed the KUID-2 impulse drive system. Next the Unity had included a copy of the Orion OSJ shield array, but again found ways to build in redundancy with damage to combat while still maintaining proper power and shield projection, this changed merited its naming to the KUSJ system. Weapon systems were considered robust if a little light, but in the end R'Archer gave his approval. The beam weapons were built with 4 banks of OD-5 disruptors arranged to cover every field of fire around the ship. Torpedo punch was provided by the Orion designed OP-5 system with 2 of the 3 launchers arranged to forward and 1 to aft. But like all other systems the Unity put their own spin on each system, the disruptors for instance had secondary combat sensors to improve targeting and response times. The Torpedo system was equally modified to allow not only automatic loading by the ship but also manual launching and targeting should the need arise. These two systems together were dubbed the KUD-5 and KUP-5 respectively. Lastly during R'Archer's inspection of the ships he was delighted to find amble cargo and storage space giving each ship the capability to go on their own for up to 4 years if needed from a resupply base. Given though the Unity's limited space owned this was not much of a concern for now so R'Archer reflected the extra storage space could be used for transport of valuable cargo and convoy duty profiles.
Lastly after completing his inspection and trial by combat of the three ships, all were found to be more then exceeding his outlined expectations, when inquiring though what the cost of each ship would be he was delighted to find that each ship would only cost about 725 or so Mcr! Far below the given budget per ship he had provided. After taking his report to the Unity Congress so too were they delighted by the report that immediate orders for three ships per colony region were placed, with an additional provision of another 10 or more in the future as needed. While the initial order would stretch the capabilities of the Unity's shipyards the desire to get 9 or more of this class in production was felt worth it.

While again I do not have any kind of actual drawing for the Tango class frigate, the rough idea is that it shares similarity to the Andorian battle cruiser seen in Enterprise memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Andorian_battle_cruiser in honor of R'Archer, the difference is it uses mostly Orion shaped parts and hull structure. So if someone like atolm or whatever wants to draw something up for it there is what I and Brandon used as a base!
