Ok so after my recent post in the other thread with the Tango, I once more got to talking to my buddy Brandon about rebuilding the Price for the Unity. Well digging up the old specs presented a problem, the Price as originally stood was built into late 2270s far beyond the campaign set with the Tordell in 2266-67. So I'm hereby retconning that the raid that R'Archer did to get his hands on the Charger's Price remains from Starfleet were in fact the below model, but included the cloak, which later was returned to the Romulans for ships and people among other things. As also mentioned the original Price was far too damaged to salvage much of anything but the idea was sound so the KUSN built it backup using off the shelf Orion parts but again like the Tango modified for their own home use. Let me know what you all think!
The Charger's Price salvaged from Federation study in a daring raid by the Andorian R'Archer on behalf of the KUSN not only netted the Unity an intact Pearl Mobile Repair Facility but the mostly intact remains of a powerful one off built Orion Pirate raider with a modern Romulan Cloaking Device. The Unity after some debate eventually returned the cloak and schematics for the Price to the Star Empire, in exchange they received a number of old cast off ships and forgotten/unwanted citizens. The original hull and systems on the Charger's Price were mostly scrapped, but the idea seemed sound to R'Archer during the development of the Tango class frigate and he contracted elements of the KUSN's ship building firms to also develop a heavy cruiser variant of the pirate raider for limited production for the KUSN.
The Mark 2 model of the Charger's Price class vii heavy cruiser was like the Tango secretly made to prepare for a possible invasion by the Tordell Empire and other threats. But also be capable of other roles as needed. Because of its slightly larger size, R'Archer decreed that it need not be as cheap to build as the Tango it did have to be easy to maintain and procure replacement parts should the need arise. It was also required to have amble cargo and transporter systems, as well as passenger space and command and control needs met for possible fleet actions. His original design called for it to be a 'battle cruiser' but in the end one of the designers convinced him that might get interest from the Federation or Klingons that might not be wanted so it was changed instead to a 'heavy cruiser'.
Designing took the quite busy ship building firms of the KUSN until the end of 2267 to finalize specifications that met R'Archer's needs. So it was not till mid-2268 that the first three Charger's Price class heavy cruisers rolled out of the shipyards within the Unity. The class like the Tango before it used common off the shelf Orion systems, but that were then heavily modified internally by the KUSN making them their own equipment. To this end the Price Mark 2 carries two conjoined KUM-4 computer systems providing amble command and control for the ship's systems, with plenty left over for other needs in important missions or ship combat. The class unlike the Tango came close to the upper weight limit of a class VII vessel. But this was mainly due to the same extra armored plating added to the outer and inner hull structure. Ths class though is still quite maneuverable compared to other ships of its type powered by the KUWD-2 drive system and a total of four separate KUIE-2 impulse drive systems. Unlike the Tango these are full impulse motors giving the class an extreme power reserve and speed at sublight, but sacrificing the redundancy that the Tango class would enjoy for combat events. However, the ship designers for the KUSN felt that the multitude of the engines themselves still allowed a level of redundancy while providing higher power curves when needed. The weapons load out was very 'forward focused', with 6 of the 8 banks of the KUD-11 disruptor facing in that arc, conversely 3 of the 4 KUP-5 torpedo tubes were also kept in a forward focus manner. Rounding out the ship's defensive system was the KUSJ shielding array the same as found on the Tango frigate.
Overall when the first three ships were produced in mid-2268 R'Archer at their evaluation was pleased by their construction. Though not as easy to produce as the Tango and other crafts, he felt in time the prestige and nority that the design would give the KUSN among its allies and opponents would outweigh the costs. The idea envisioned by him and others in the KUSN was that one of each of the first three ships would be assigned to each of the Unity's core worlds, escorted by at least two Tango frigates for their patrol or exploration duties. By the end of 2268 R'Archer's plan was well ahead of schedule and these heavy cruisers were in effect soon in his mind to become the staple cruiser for the KUSN.
