Another filler piece I made for my campaign, something commissioned to fill a perceived gap I felt in the KUSN something akin to a Starfleet Academy Training Base on a planet groundside.
2269 dawned for the KUSN with all the naval shipyards in full swing either refitting current naval designs, building new ones, or researching new ideas. Many of these were directed by the KUSN and Intelligence Arm Fleet Admiral R'Archer. By the dawning of this year word had gotten out in some form or another about a potential enemy out in the unexplored reaches of space. Coupled with some increased patrols near the Federation border many felt the KUSN was penned in from further exploration and expanding in most directions. That said a naval review by the head admirals of the navy found that while many of their ships were serviceable, a lack of true training was a shortfall of the KUSN. To this end human Commodore Charles Barks a former Federation Academy training officer took it upon himself to fund, organize, and have built by outside contractors a sizable planetary training ground for the KUSN for those wishing more in-depth training for their future assignments. Unlike the Federation it so far would not be a requirement to serve, but in the same token it wouldn't hurt either and Barks felt in the long run it would only help the KUSN evolve.
Using the last of his friendly contacts and funds from within the Federation, Barks secured plans for Starfleet's Mark 2 variant Fenlon class V monitor. He then contracted interested Orion, and other Triangle based construction firms to upscale the core design, then build it planetside as a large half dome (Above ground) with the other half below ground. It would be made of fairly cheap building materials as it was not expected ever to host any form of true combat. That said the core framework and rooms were kept quite roomy and reinforced to allow ease adjustment for a variety of simulated planets, ships, and actions for both naval personnel and marines. For this core need for versatility the facility is ran by the KUM-4 computer system, while overkill for normal system usage its large amount of storage, processing, and such ability allowed it to host holosuites for simulation use (See TAS to make this viable as proof!), it also would allow complex AI training for officers and marines. Further while the core training staff's rooms were fairly spacious, the actual training barracks were quite cramped to reflect the common theme in many KUSN ships and posts as well as potential hostile encounters. The facility is powered by a geothermal and matter/antimatter power system, the KUMG-1 and backed up by two fusion reactors of the KUID-2 system. Offensively the facility is mostly armed only for training purposes but could be used in a pinch due to the armament of KUD-1 disruptors and KUP-3 torpedoes. Equally on the defensive the facility is protected by a medium weight KUSI shielding system. While only the one facility has been constructed on Kepha's southern hemisphere away from most main cities, towns, or other distractions for the training staff. This also allowed the facility to conduct live fire training exercises in relative peace and safety giving the staff more experience in operating these systems and in repairs. No plans are in place to build anymore but who knows what the future could bring?
