Hope you don't mind I did this update to R'Archer's personal dreadnought and I hope you'll consider it into the canon lore of the Unity. brickwall with your blessing. Give me your thoughts!
In early 2269 Fleet Admiral R'Archer received a surprise request from his birth mother Er'an R'Archer a diplomat and active fleet admiral herself within the Andorian Imperial Guard and Starfleet's 'Blue Fleet' of ships crewed by Andorian crews. The request was for him to meet her at the Federation border and travel under a flag of peace to Andoria to attend a diplomatic function. Follow up communiques to his mother and the KUSN owns intelligence agents within the Federation confirmed this original request. Intel showed that the diplomatic function on Andoria was to be hosting members from a variety of other powers in and out of the Federation. In the interest of peace Er'an as its host and planner had used her clout to include her son's attendance on behalf of the Unity, privately though in her comms to her son she simply stated "..It's the only way I will ever get to see you anymore!.." of course when one's own mother says jump you can't help but answer how high. So after getting clearances to attend the conference on Andoria. Fleet Admiral R'Archer set out with his crew aboard his personal dreadnought the Vendee. The ship was met by Er'an at the border aboard by the Andorian Imperial Guard Battleship the ASS Reval. Now under the protection of a diplomat the Vendee crossed for the first time into Federation space peacefully. Along the way Er'an and R'Archer were it said to exchange long talks on either ship, the topics covered though were for 'family ears only'.
Almost a week later of travel, the Vendee and Reval entered the Andorian home system. There in attendance were representatives from the Romulan Star Empire, the Klingon Empire, the Gorn, Orions and many other private interests from within and out of Federation space. R'Archer was heard to comment that with all the normally hostile members present, it was a wonder the Andorian system had not turned into a war zone. Er'an simply stated that it was the natural family charm and prestige that kept everyone in line. The next few days passed without incident and during this time Ek'ert was able to secure several mining and non-military oriented research and trade deals with businesses in both the Star Empire, Gorn, and others on behalf of the Unity. This success and his happenstance ability to defuse several other tense negotiations with normally hostile parties by weight of his presence meant that by its end no shots or maimings had been fired or occured.
After the other alien race members had departed, Er'an threw one last major family party for her son Ek'ert. Of course she did try to sway him to return to the family fold within the Federation, but this fell on deaf ears. The exact reasons given were never shared on public records to anyones knowledge. It was though during this time that Ek'ert shared with his mother his concerns about the Tordell Empire beyond Unity space. His mother after reviewing some of the less sensitive information Ek'ert provided from the Vendee's databanks in a surprise turn decalred, "..Well if anyone is to protect our family's honor and your people, you're going to need better equipment on your own ship!.." When inquiring what his mother meant she gave a fond smile and declared that she would make provisions for the Vendee to be refitted under the care of her personal fleet yard owned by the family. Ek'ert protested of course not wanting to cause problems for his mother. But Er'an was hearing none of it, and after some lengthy 'official' meetings on record for trade and refitting the Vendee entered the dry dock for the next 3 months receiving a wealth of refinements and upgrades across the board.
The end result was that the Vendee was far more capable than her original built form. The ship rebuilt almost from the ground up inside and out was now a powerful contender for any future combat. After this refitting and overhaul the reborn Vendee was once more escorted by Er'an back to the Unity/Federation border. When Ek'ert returned to Kepha and gave his update several of the Vendee's original ship builders were annoyed and protested. But R'Archer pointed out that the ship's original systems were still usable for other projects within the KUSN which R'Archer had brought back in a large cargo module, this fact seems to pacify these protesters.
As it turned out this massive upgrade would soon prove its worth during a patrol 2 months later where the Vendee and 2 escort ships were engaged by far ranging scout ships who were later identified as being of the Tordell Empire. The exact details of this encounter though have yet to be revealed to the public.
