Well... I seen it.
And Imma watch episode two.
Episode one was, actually "not bad" bordering on "pretty good". Capt. Pike is a bit of a goof ball, but that's okay. He's definitely not Jeffery Hunter's Christopher Pike, but he seem like a watchable character. Nurse Chapel is interesting in a weird, hot-nerd-girl way. Cadet Uhura needs more hair - but she's still young and it should be fun to see her grow into the Lt Uhura. The ship is... nice. Really nice. A bit too slick and shiny on the inside, but externally she's the Enterprise.
With a little luck, the won't turn a silk purse into a sow's ear.

If you say "it's not so terrible" Then I might watch it.
Better than watching ST:P Treat TND like a BuD. Oh Q you should have stayed out of it.
If I hear more people liking it I will give it a try. But before I do, is it contextualized within STD's or STP, or is it it's own thing? or Kelvin Timeline?

The pilot was okay - it helps that Anson Mount is a very likable actor to start with - and Rebecca Romjin is as well.
The pilot has enough 'Trekkyness' to make fit reasonably well but, there are also ... issues here and there.
I'm still not about to subscribe as it isn't THAT good and even though the following episodes are supposedly decent (varies) it's still current Drek so...?

Beyond a few nitpicks for me personally I like SNW it keeps mostly to the roots of what little we know about pike and company from the cage (and a little from some of the novels even and animated series), plus for all of those things we never did know makes things evident and/or expands on it. The only real tie in to Discovery Season 2 is the first episode and beyond that little is again mentioned, it truly comes into its own even really halfway through episode 1! Again there's a few nitpicks here and there, and obviously some adjustments for things they couldnt do or show in the 60s TOS, but all in all it feels fresh and great vs Discovery's take in season 1 and 2. And this is just me? But mostly for things in regards to Picard it too was good, some nitpicks or eye rolls but nothing that made me want to shut it off like disco did at times in season 1 and 2

I get that if they made the Enterprise look like it was made in 1967 Burbank they would be laughed off the air, but my problems with the series is that the writers have once again made the Star Trek universe feel small by shoehorning in characters that had no real reason to be on the Enterprise in the pre-Kirk era. Uhura, M'benga, Chapel, another Noonian-Soong, T'Pring, George Samuel Kirk. It's a big fleet, a big galaxy, and putting in those characters just limits the universe in size.

Yeah, shoehorning all these characters and references in is stupid, and makes me distrust the whole production. Mount and Romajn were the only really likable things to come from Discovery, and I'm not opposed to a show heavily featuring them. The art style is distracting, but assuming we just admit this is a BSG-style reboot and not some kind of retcon of the existing universe, I could come around on my instinctive hatred of nutrek if they do even a middling job. That said I'm not going to bother even looking at it until the first season is done and we know for sure they haven't completely Kurtzmaned it up.

It isn't just a failing of current writers. I think it's something Trek writers have done since TNG. It's easier to simply throw in a fan favorite than come up with something original. I thought McCoy giving Ent-D a nice send off was just right amount of passing the torch. Then the next episode was a remake of The Naked Time. Then Sarek, then Spock, then Scotty, Klingons and Romulans galore. For a ship on the edge of known space they kept coming back to the same characters from TOS all the time. (Yes, I realize those are some of the best received shows from TNG). And DS9 was guilty of the same thing when they brought Kor, Kang, and Koloth. Even Voyager and Enterprise, set in the far ends of the galaxy and in the first steps from Earth respectively, managed to work in Klingons, Romulans, and Ferengi.
It just seems lazy and safe at times as a storytelling mechanism to keep going back to the same characters.

It's not perfect. Not even close.
But I do like it.
It's weird and trekkish. I don't like what they did to the Gorn (turned them into "Aliens"/"Xenomorphs"). T'pring is ... wow ... she's just wow. Uhura needs some freaking hair, but she's still cool enough. Sam Kirk is likable... too bad he dies in a few years. Singh... meh. The Doctor is cool and they did not drag out his daughter's sup-plot overly long. Una is cool (and just correctly over the top). The Helm-gal took some getting used to.
Some of the writing makes me say "huh?".
And the ship is too shiny and too big.
But it's still a pretty good show. The best Trek since DS9 (that's not an opinion, it's a demonstrable scientific fact). I actually enjoy it (as much ... or even more than Orville).
Still, if they put Uhura, Spock, or Chapel in a life threatening situation... we know they pull through. They kept doing that in Kenobi... Dudes, we know they are all still alive in ten years... We also know Pike has only 8 years to go (but we knew that anyway).
I'll rank it 4th
ToS DS9 TNG (after season 2) SNW

it goes a long way in saving the franchise that Discovery and Picard almost totally put in the grave. the franchise has gone from critical condition to Serious condition....I think we can wait on ordering the head stone...

I doubt that a failure of SNW would have permanently 'killed' the franchise but, it might have done away with Kurtzman et.al. I don't think that would be a bad thing...
What few clips I've seen of the finale for this season weren't great - or too disappointing. Whoever they had playing the Romulan Commander seemed to be simply reciting the lines - without any of the style/grace of Mark Leonard.
Not sure about the 'new' Kirk either - didn't get much from the clips.

It's what happens with having to hire lookalikes.
The New Kirk is okay, and acts much like the Real Kirk. I was surprised that they made the Farragut a new Class, another of those JJ/DIS Saucer and two nacelles ships (Possibly a TOS Miranda?)

I watched all of SNW from the get go, I like/liked it, sure there was a few hiccups I griped over but over all it was well done and I can accept it.

I got the SNW enterprise ornament for christmas. I never really looked at it before but it has become one of my favorite ships, just that quick after taking it out of the box. Would it work in the FASA Game? (Constitution MK III Maybe?)
