Let's be courteous to each other, folks. The show may not have feelings but everyone knows that just trashing and flaming it potentially stirs up in thread trouble so lets try to keep things civil while still being honest and not pussy footing either. Also, obviously, spoilers.
I purposely skipped watching it during its run to see how it turned out (and to not be counted in the important initial viewing metrics). What were your favorite episodes? What were the least favorite? After seeing the clips of the snarky space baristas dressing down fellow Starfleet officers (of course with the usual only allowable for such treatment) just doing their jobs upgrading the bridge in a clip from the first episode, I decided that I was never going to watch the full show. The court episode seemed overflowing with potential to be more of the same so I skipped it as did I skip the hijack the Enterprise with no apparent reprecussions episode. The time travel "bottle" episode intrigued me so I included that along with the M'Benga/Klingon Diplomat and the Lower Decks crossover just because (despite not being a fan of the show itself personally). The only one I actually liked was the war story (though flawed and stretching credulity at times... there was no reason for M'Benga to suddenly become secret space ninja Storm Shadow to advance the plot) and the Lower Decks crossover had its moments (and might have been ok as the single goofy/gimmick episode of the season had not the silly sing along episode existed). I'm ok with them resetting the timeline for Khan but though overall that the episode was poor both as a bottle episode and as a time travel one about on par or slightly below the ENT WW2 ones. Did I miss any actually good episodes? And, no, despite being an OG Buffy/Angel fan who watched them during the orginal runs and threw Buffy parties to get my friends into it, I have zero interest in the musical episode and it should be Varon-T'ed into oblivion at a bare minimum... preferably Q-snapped out additionally.

I think that anyone who is determined to find reasons to not like a show will be able to find them. I don't think any of your stated objections couldn't be applied to TNG, DS9, VOY, or any other show in this franchise. I have thoroughly enjoyed Strange New Worlds. I don't think that there has been a single episode that I didn't enjoy. Sure there are some things that I'd have done different, but this is true of all Trek. I approach each new Trek looking to enjoy it and most of the shows have given me more to like than to dislike.

I disagree but to each their own. If I'm determined to not like a show, I just don't watch it personally (like STD post season 2, Lower Decks after one episode, and Prodigy after one trailer). YMMV. Did you have a favorite episode this season though? If so, which one?

I don't like the re-imagined Gorn and the destruction of the previous Gorn timeline - better to invent a new threat. Spock's character assassination continues. The reimagined Balance of Terror was OK but it lacked the tension of the original and also didn't get the weapons right, the dog-fighting was just dumb. I liked the more psychological stuff like the one with the child sacrifice. The characters are better than the other New Trek series in that I know and identify who they are. I find the new Uhura really grating nothing like the grace and wit of the original. DR M'Benga is OK and I liked his dark past story so an interesting new character. Chapel as a space groupie not so much again as it's character assassination of the original. The second season was worst than the first and the musical I can't watch it. I have watched it all bar that one episode but I don't get the excitement I used to get when a new Orville dropped.

I've seen a few of those shows. IMO, the best thing they could have done was change the names and went on with it. When Pike was in command he could have had a completely different crew. It's been a long time since I saw the pilot or The Menagerie, and other than Spock, and him being rewritten into a whole new character, I don't recall any of Pike's crew staying on with Kirk. (Actual actresses/mistresses aside)

I'm going to give this a try but how much discovery do I have to watch?

Well, you should probably start with the season 1 two part premier and see how it rubs you. If the answer is like sandpaper on your private parts, you probably shouldn't continue because the rest of sesaon 1 isn't much better.
