Spent the evening going through these books last night, Great photos and good info in all three...i really like the book from Milsom...
That said they truly are not in the same class as books by Hunnicutt, but not many references are.

I got this one back in the 80s when I was on holidays in British Columbia. It was my first foray into books about military hardware and history. I really liked the illustrations and actual photos of the equipment in the book.

I was just saying I knew of those and was just looking for other sources I had not read up on as of yet regarding it Just read my last reply back and I sound like a petulant child and I apologise. Work and my own health is getting me down and I used you as a blind way of venting some steam which was wrong of me. Thank you for not turning this into some sort of big kids trolling war. In relation to the tsar tank, I think the photo posted on the wiki and several other places is the only truly original photo left in existence and books from the time will be very few and far between and likely to be in Russian? It's a true example of the military minds of the time, senior officers trying to get to grips with technology they don't understand whilst still trying to fight a war using ideas half a century out of date. Jim Its all good Jim. I know in my own way how you probably feel with my own struggles of life, anxiety and all that. As for the Tsar tank, its honestly one of those military inventions that I always want to know 'wtf were they thinking?' like ok sure its new I get it. But how could anyone looking at it or designing it not see all the problems it would have? The big one for me when I first heard of this and saw it was 'one artillery shell or other explosive of half decent power for the time hitting that wheel/frame and its done' its more of a clunker to me then even the German models were.

You have to think like they did back then? The idea of huge monster vehicles rolling across the plains towering above the buildings and trenches with only the brave officers to keep the rif raff squaddies from running away before them? The tank was Jules Verne and Wells made real. Imagine your average bloke stuck in his trench, smoke, gas and death everywhere then dozens of tzar tanks come out of the smoke rolling over the wire and shell holes with ease. Guns blazing and firing down on the ant like men before them? It was the age of wonder and the ill educated populous?

But I guess I cant also figure even the most ill educated country bumpkin not seeing how a mortar shell or artillery piece could knock that out quick given big target = easy hit vs small target = harder hit? Cause that was my thought when I first read about the Tzar tank when I was like 6-7 years old lol (i'm 39 now) so if mostly uneducated me could think that how someone/a group of someones wouldnt makes my mind boggle Of course on the flip side of reasoning to what I just said of 'why' I guess maybe the thought could have been they saw the tzar more as a terror weapon/demoralizer? vs something practical in scope in theory like everyone else did?
