I was able to convert my MS Word 5.1 files from 1992. This was one of my favorites:
Known Sphere of Operation: Romulan and UFP borders
Data Reliability: E
Major Data Source: Klingon Sector Intelligence, Triangle Sector Intelligence
Never a favorite of the Imperial Navy and the butt of Federation jokes, the D-11 made a poor destroyer as it was under gunned. The asymmetrical design restricted fields of fire from the weapon mounting hardpoints.
With the emergence of the powerful Federation Andor class missile cruiser, the Imperial Navy needed to close this gap by putting into the field a missile ship of its own as soon as possible. The D-11, having long been out of production and reduced to an escort status for research vessels, was resurrected as its one wing could support a missile battery easily. Within a year and a half of the Andor's appearance, the D 11-E was deployed. 30 of the 41 active D11-D's were recalled and refurbished with more powerful warp and impulse engines. The KWC-2 were upgraded to the KWC-3, while the impulse drive was completely replaced to the four times more powerful KIE-3.
The D 11-E carries only one disrupter mounted in the forward command pod. Four KP-3 missile systems line up across the wing, with two more covering the side and aft arcs. This forward concentration makes up for it's earlier criticism of poor firing arcs. This is also due to new tactics developed to effectively use a missile boat as a heavy support vessel, not a mainline attack ship; something learned from the Federation.
On Stardate 2/2404 the D-11 E proved its worth as it played a decisive part in a major battle against the Federation. In the Battle of Laktuuk, two D-11 E's flanking a L-13 D battleship were critical in the destruction of a Federation battleship and the crippling of a heavy cruiser; the Andor class USS Lator ,its vaunted adversary. Two volleys from each D-11 E caused the battleship Sufis to explode, which in turn decimated the adjacent Lator and caused the nearby Enterprise class USS Ticonderoga to erupt also.
Of the 30 D 11-E's deployed, more than half went to the UFP border, with the rest divided between the Triangle and Romulan zones. If more vicories like the one at Latuuk persist, the D-11 may be the first Klingon vessel ever to be put back into production.
