Whoa hoah! Look at that TNG era station! What a huge massive telescope on the pad! Larger than a Galaxy -class starship! And look at those spherical gas/liquid storage tanks! Also Galaxy-class in size! And the massively huge X shape window in the station!
Lazy Paramount cheapos couldn't use the spacedock model instead?

Not for Measure of a Man which was filmed about the same time that Star Trek V. The movie got to kept the miniature. For DS9, Spacedock would block viewing most of the ships that would be placed around it so the smaller dome of R1 makes sense.

I don't see how using 'already constructed model A' over 'already constructed model B' makes them any more or less lazy or cheap.

One is utterly unrealistic; made for the brainless and uneducated masses who have no idea what they're looking at. The other one is somewhat more plausible as a much larger TNG era replacement of the original in ST3.

Don't lose any sleep over it, Gorn. After all, we have seen the Klingon Bird-of-Prey, Defiance and Neh'Var (among others) in a huge variety of sizes - what makes this any different?
