YA know one thing I always thought was that top third nacelle should be moved forward more along the pylon too much of its back end sits off the pylon for my liking but thats me

No an attempt to solve a shortage of power in a previous class that proved itself well in the FYW. From what i have learned, the Federation was an attempt to solve the problems of the Heston class battle-cruiser. Heston was over gunned and under powered. The third nacelle and warp engine was an attempt to add more power to the grid, but it does have its problems, it made for a warp bubble that was hard to balance. In the story line, Like Heston these ships are also pure warships. When they joined the fleet they had no war to fight and were mothballed until around the Organian crisis, but here they were also cheated out of their war. After V'Ger incident, they underwent an "administrative" refit to bring them up to the standards laid out by Enterprise class, but in this refit, they were over gunned again, and well same old problem Heston had. Though using software upgrades, at least they were able to stabilize the warp bubble.

This is one of my favorite ships of all times. I love the design from Franz Joseph, and i love the vintage starship II website's back story for her...
Great to have her with us here

I do not particularly care for this ship. She is awkward. Her third nacelle makes almost no sense. She was designed under the assumption that the deflector dish was a sensor dish. Now that we know it's a deflector the dish on the back makes no sense. I modeled her because it was fun and because she's a popular ship in Star Trek fanon.

Nice work as always and I agree about the traditional kitbashed style tri-nacelle dreadnoughts. About the only design that I like with that type of feature is MacrossMartin's version which has the third and fourth nacelle fused into one larger structure giving the appearance of a tri-nacelle design. It still has the odd dual deflector but it's less prominent on back. YMMV.

I know most people don't pay much attention to the novels that have been written over the years, but one of my favorite reads was the book "Dreadnought" and the monster that was built in that book. I love playing around with the idea of the USS Star Empire!!!!

This design offers one hell of a compromise on the tech of the 2260's. She solves several problems by pushing it to its limits...I love how you have to play the various incarnations we have of this design

She's really too much ship for her time. There is not a lot you can do to improve her because of WDF limitations on the computers. I had to hold her first refit to 2269 because her original design is really close to the WDF cap for the M-4. The M-6 gives her a little room to grow, but not much. Even with the introduction of the M-6A there is not much room for her to outshine the refit Connie. Of course her main strength is having more power to throw at her systems which gives her a slight edge over her smaller cousin.
