I'd say go with right side up. That always bothered me about the Anton class.
Funny thing, just recently, I've started to think that the Anton makes a better sort of TOS predecessor to the Chandley class, over the Reliant class, as FASA had it!
Good work as always, Joshua!

I too am leaning toward "right side up" nacelles. They just don't look right upside down.

I went for right way up when I made my version. Upside down looks peculiar, but that's probably because we're so familiar with the Enterprise.

Who knows why. Regardless, I will be going with "right side up".

Right side up looks much better. They were probably done upside down originally cos they used the same mold as the Constitution class?

All of the original (original) artwork was cut and paste (literally) and since the Constitution engines had the struts on the bottom, I guess they decided to flip them over.

I have always liked the Anton class. I find her a good ship to play when you are doing Four Years War or even "Great Awakening" scenarios. And as for Reliant being developed from her, from the design looks of both ships, it appears these rebuilds were using the old naval trick of using upkeep founds and some parts from one ship to build a new ship. These 'administrative overhauls' actually turn out new ships, without having to go to appropriations for funding. Navies have done it for centuries.
Constitution class to Enterprise class is the same thing. There are just to many differences to believe they were direct rebuilds. Use a keel plate here or there....and call it an overhaul for a new ship...

I have always liked this class of ship. They Held their own on the line during the FASAVerse's Four Years War. Also like the Constitution class, the Anton class helped push the Federation expansion during the Great Awakening.
The Great Awakening was the time just after the Romulan War and before the Four Years War. This is the era when the UFP greatly enhanced its science, exploration and growth.
The Anton carried the same labs and so on s the Constitution class vessels, but were only sent out on three year missions.
These ships were very important to the FASAvers, and I am grateful that they weren't forgotten in the great skitchup work we are getting...

Coming in very late on all these designs. Very impressive work. The Anton class is often overlooked, not just for battle scenarios, but as mentioned above, they're pretty important for exploration and surveys. I often use one of them for 'guest appearances' when the travel time needs to be broken up a little by crossing paths with a ship inbound after a long, long tour to the edge of known space.
