( all I have at the moment is a description. Anyone able to add more material, please feel free to do so. Oceans and soil are dying along with alot of the populace due to unstable red giant (hey, the Science violation in the planet's orbit isn't nearly as bad as the shit JJ pulls!) They don't make ships of their own.)
One of the oldest, most gentle, and honored civilizations to have joined the Federation. The low mass Red Giant, Alpha Venturi major, is in the early stages of becoming a planetary nebula. The Federation is mounting an extended effort to relocate the Venturi; however, the majority refuse to leave due to religious convictions. The Venturi are a very old civilization, and their experience and technology was a boon to the Federation. However, they feel the Federation gave back very little, and should be reviving their dying planet; since most Venturi are convinced their god will not allow their extinction. They willingly suffer a high mortality rate among their newborn, and extremely high mortality rate among aged adults. Very few Venturi have ever left their planet for exploratory or merchant work in space, since they are generally uncomfortable with armed conflict; even against pirates.
A popular religious leader, Alshoff, however, has actually departed Venturi Prime, claiming to be on a pilgrimage of divine inspiration. It has caused some social chaos, which for the gentle Venturi, amounts to more secularism and departure from the doomed Venturi Prime.
