Ever since I first encountered FASA's STSTCS the Andor Class Cruiser has been one of my favorite ships. She is a tough little ship and she looks good from the side and top and ok from the front. What's not to like?
Of course I would like to build her in Sketchup and believe me, I've tried. I have a number of false starts under my belt but I find it is extremely difficult to reconcile the three views of the ship in a 3D model. I've looked online to see if anyone else has done this to maybe find some inspiration, but have not been impressed with my findings so I thought I'd put it before the community here.
Does anyone here have any ideas about how this ship should look in 3D? Does anyone here have any favorite interpretation that they think I could draw some inspiration from? Even without any input I'm sure I'll eventually land on something that works for me, but it can't hurt to ask.
If you have something I look forward to your suggestions. Thanks for any help you guys can offer!
Joshua

The only thing I could think of would be to look at the miniature or pictures of the miniature. At least it could give you a reference to start with since it would truly be a 3D image that reconciles the three way views. When I get a chance, I will set up a photo shoot of mine using multiple angles and post the pics for you.

If you don't want to use the mini as inspiration, what about Brads' redraw on the Database pages. I think it captures the intent of the original design, while tying it a bit closer in design details to the Enterprise class (Constitution refit).

I've found what I want. I have some ideas that I'm hashing out. I should be posting something sometime soon.

Good to hear, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Really. I had thought at the time that since Star Trek licenced TO FASA, it could have simply appropriated any design it wanted to; they could have used any of the minis filmed at a distance. I'm *certain* it was FASA minis we saw in the ending battle of ST VI on the Klingon tactical screen of Chang.

The Andor is the flag bearer for the Federation's march toward producing missile boats. This ship packs one hell of a punch in the ability to deliver 64 damage points in the form of torpedoes at the cost of only 8 power points. That means these ships can open a can of whip ass even on the best enemy vessels in space. Of course these ships do have one problem they carry only one bank of forward firing phasers to use in their attack.
The ships do have an efficient shield system and they do have a good amount of power on the gird. They are built light though with only a superstructure of 22 points.
It is a matter of tactics to get this ship into action. i usually put a pair of them in an attack wing with either a modern frigate or a cruiser to provide the gun support they need going into the target. I generally pair them up with a Babcock or Kiev class frigate. the frigate's job is to lead the way blasting with its phasers to keep the enemy vessel in defense while the Andors close to deliver the punch.
These are good ships, but they do need fire support

Brilliant work mate! Andor along with the other "blue fleet" ships like the Northampton and Thufir are among my favorite "derived" designs from FASA... perfect rendition thus far
