This has been a design that I have worked off and on for a few years. I have finally settled on the design's final shape. Enjoy mates: Direct Link: i64.tinypic.com/3ctaw.jpg

Wow! Atolm, that is an incredible detailed ship. The backstory and stats on this will be incredible, to say the least. I think the Cyclops-class would belong more in the TNG era in my opinion. And what Federation member species would be the dominant influence in the design? As I said...incredible! Congratulations on a fine, fine ship!

Hmm ya know this might be a late TNG era ship (like post hobus 2387+) I really get a xindi feel for it assuming they are members by then

Thanks for the last. That makes a lot more sense. Now we just need stats for it.

To me it looks like a hand-held heavy weapon. It would be held kind of like this:

As cool as it is, I just don't think it's "Federation". For an alien race, it's spectacular.

Agreed. But they seem to have come up with a design standard. This is a really cool ship, it just does not make me think "Federation".

It has always bugged me that the whole Federation has adopted Human design aesthetics. In my "brain canon" There are Starfleet ships from many member races.

Standardized design tends to happen when multiple nations work together, see International Space Station. It is rather likely that the Federation designs are a result of such a standardization effort.

Except they are not, Enterprise showed us that Starfleet adopted the whole Saucer/Hull/nacelle config before the "Federation". In TOS it was stated that the Federation was built up of hundreds of worlds... By TNG it would be hundreds of thousands. It would be absurd to believe that in all that time from PreTOS to Post TNG that the whole Saucer/Hull/Nacelle config would not be revised, rethought, or revolutionized. The ISS is not a good example as it is created by one species...not a human, an ant, a cat, a bird etc...(that is of course, if they could do it lol ). Not saying that "standardization" would not develop, but it would not be so homogenized as to become status quo. As newer and newer species entered into the Federation, more and more ideas would develop. The constant integration of new species, would always be leading into "newness".

The ship looks more Romulan to me than Federation.

When we look onscreen, saucer, engineering hull and nacelles seems to begin to change slightly in the "First Contact" time period, where we get the new designs that attack the Borg cube, still having all the Starfleet features (red bussards, blue warp nacelle grilles etc), but the saucer shapes are changing from circular (the Intrepid and Sovereign classes started this with the elliptical shape). And although the Enterprise-J glimpsed on "Enterprise" seems to keep the saucer concept, by the 29th Century, we have the Timefleet ship we saw on "Voyager", a merged, almost fish like hull, still with the Starfleet details.
And those 'Starfleet details' are still here on this design, bussards - tick, warp grilles - yup! What I love about your designs, atolm, is that while I might like some more than others, you always get us talking about them. You have a great imagination, and drawing talent to get them down onto paper or computer screen for all to see.
Keep 'em coming, that's what I say!

Agreed. Keep 'em coming. The art you create is exceptional, and this is a cool ship.
