Our favorite Screenwriter, Director, Producer, and general hack is doing stupid things again... [ LINK] "Sources say the Abrams drama is about a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another land amid a world's battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world."

Well - it will probably be awful but - he'll probably get it on the air anyway...
He is the ADHD poster-child of Hollywood, after all.

If you subtract the lens flares the first JJDrek wasn't bad.
I mean, he pulled off a competent pilot, For example I tried to show my (15 year younger) wife the joys of star trek " A doomsday like any other" and " a balance of terror" and she didn't get it. She said it was too long, as she often does.
At least JJ Gave star wars AND old fart star trek fans like us a nod before he gutted them completely, and his successor overlords raped the essentials of critical human drama in favor of whiffle-ball bat feminist talking points and diversity quotas. But that's the world we live in, that's why the joy of a new movie/show...it never lasts. There's nothing new under the sun, we've seen it before.
The generation that love star trek was taught by those that loved "Citizen Kane". Kids these days, you want to actually study and say you love /quote/unquote "THE SCIENCE"? Get ready to run PCR reaction #1, then do it 10,000 times over and over again, then search for a +/- 2 SD in the results.
IMHO this is, incidentally, the ONLY reason the ST:TNG still resonates, and that is because the computer does all the heavy lifting. Aside from that you wouldn't know geordi was a physicist at all, or that ryker even had a job except that one time picard got captured (wait, he got captured a LOT).
So yeah, people are getting dumber, without the basic HUMANITIES and PHILOSOPHY (questioning what we are aside from the predominant meat-puppet theorems), entertainment must also get dumber.
It's farhenheit 451 in real time. Only we don't need flames, we just need people who can't read. Hence away, ye ancient demons of deeper thinking. Sans T'n'A which we know is verbotten, I don't understand why modern TV is compelling at all.
EDIT and Tl/DR Version: SURE jjdrek gets more pilots, because as odious as he is to purists (thinking people) he has been more $ucce$$ful, because he's the torchbearer, the brightest light in modern entertainment. Make of that what you will. IMHO it's a bad omen, it will only get worse.

Unless you also account for the blazing stupidity of "cadet" Kirk getting promoted immediately to Captain... I'm still waiting to see what Quentin Tarantino really has in mind for the 4th film: Vanity Fair ArticleWith him in charge (and JJ just on the sidelines) it could go either way. Insanely good or holy crap bad!

looked at your references and all I can say is *OUCH*. and it's a deep abiding pain since it means to my shame that i was right. for MORE SHAMEFUL dumbing down, look at the new OMG *CG* PETER RABBIT!!!!! www.peterrabbit-movie.com/ wait you think that was a moral lesson against personal greed and hubris? NOPE. Wake up, he has a RABBIT-TUDE! ALL THE RABBITS deserve the farmer's spoils now. FIGHT THE POWER!! His MOXIE is smarter than reality. I thought dumbing down the brothers' grimm was bad eough already but no, now peter rabbit didn't get too hungry, he just knew the farmer didn't APPROPRIATELY SHARE all the GREEDY CAPITALIST FARMER had for himself (+ fart jokes/cGI). OMG Culturally revisionist hollywood you aren't even trying anymore. It may seem OT but what you see herein is what star trek is these days. No moral conflict (really), no moral conundrum, no battle at all. You can join the improvement of man, but only if you think the right way. shit I finally saw discovery and I found myself agreeing with the klingons. Not because of their totalitarian doctrine but because they bear the shame of hoping for retaining their cultural individuality. FUCK YOU star trek, when you take the evil war mongering klingons and make them sympathetic. thank GOTT it's an alternate reality else.. MICHAEL EDDINGTON WAS RIGHT!!
