He designed Venturi on the fly out of a quick reference in Starfleet Academy - I went in and counted the number of beam weapons, torps, and basic size. From that we got a couple of ships out of them, the light cruiser and the heavy. Now I just gotta find someone who can take screenshots and turn them into a 3D model for Shapeways.

Hello Everyone, I am so happy to find a message board where everyone shares my interest for the old FASA ships and game. I really wish they published Operation Armageddon before the plug was pulled on the game but I bet there is a rough draft out there in a forgotten archive drawer (sigh). Anyone interested in a collaboration on writing it for ourselves?

And with the registration of new member thibeinn, the forum is back up to 200 members. If you're new here recently, and haven't already done so, why don't you tell us about how you got into this little game we all still follow? Mark

Hi all. I used to play the tactical combat simulator back in the '80s, along with FASA Trek.
I've recently re-acquired the games (I've regretted selling my old copies) for years. Watch out for dumb questions as I re-familiarise myself with the rules, and fan designs when the starship construction manual arroves (it's in the post somewhere between the US and the UAE).
I'm an active tabletop gamer - primarily RPGs, but some boardgames - originally from the UK and currently living in Dubai, where we have an active and growing tabletop community.
Wouldn't consider myself a devoted Trek fan, but the TV shows and movies have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. And although Patrick Stewart was born and raised not far from where I was born and raised, I prefer my Trek seasoned with Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
Set phasers to fun!

Welcome aboard.
The old adage of no question is a dumb one applies, I think? Ask away, post stuff you've added to your games, new ship dsigns, mini pics, and like you said, have fun.

Hi all - I've browsed the ship pages for about a year now, but I've never actually played the game. *ducks*
I found out about these pages from a computer game I actively mod for, Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator. A few guys on that forum created a TOS and a TMP mod. To have some sort of game balance that was a bit more rigorous than "That should be faster/more shields/etc," they based the ship stats in their mods on the stats found here.
When I went to make a TNG mod for the same game, I ended up spending many many many hours going through these pages for stats and references. I'm interested now in trying this game (just started into a bit of casual wargaming), and I think a few folks near me probably played this a while back. Here's hoping they still have their stuff!
More than anything, I'd like to say thank you for having these pages and keeping it going so we can use them for totally different purposes. Besides, I love having all kinds of stats and images, especially for new (to me) and interesting ships!

Welcome to the board.
No problem with not having played the game (yet!) lol. These days, I'm more of a poster of a few of my more interesting designs from years gone by. Drifted away from my gaming Group, and can't get my aging Mac to co-operate with any online games.
Ask anything you want about this classic game if you need to.

Hey guys, Been a long time lurker on the old boards, and having recently renewed an interest in FASA Trek, I figured I'd actually sign on this time. Glad this place is around!

I would like to welcome all our new members to this great resource. Here I have learned things that has enhanced both my play in the Combat Sim and the RPG. The folks are always helpful when that is needed and they are willing to talk with you about any subject n this great area of science fiction.
Sometimes, we have disagreements, sometimes just out right arguments, but so far we haven't taken to phaser duels on the quad.
You will find here among us folks who really like to play this Combat Sim in the way it was meant for. We take on the persona of the races we like to fight as..
Also, if you look back through the past posts you will find many "papers" our members have written. These papers have made some very good logical connections between a lot of tee inconsistencies found in "canon", aka, the so called holy bible of Star Trek, Paramount has made a mess of that one.
So no matter which Trek you prefer, Canon Trek, FASA Trek, or Neu Trek, welcome aboard and welcome to a great home.....

Greetings! I've often come to this site for inspiration and info and finally thought I should join and talk about what I'm doing in the world of STSTCS.
My first experience with this game began in the late 80s some time. I was a young teenager and spent quite a bit of time at a local hobby shop near my grandma's house. I came across the iconic cover for the rule book while perusing the hobby shop shelves and everything in the universe suddenly felt right. Having $25 burning a hole in my pocket I felt no regret at making this purchase. Bear in mind this was the 2003A version of the rule book so it was wrapped in plastic and had some kind of hard board insert in it. I didn't know what was inside until I got home. When I finally did get home I fell in love with this book. Especially when I got to the back end and saw all the great amazing ships with stats and everything. My imagination went wild. Each ship looked like something you would expect to see in the movies and it really brought the Trek universe to life for me. I loved the art on the hexes as well. This was my dream game come true. I've always remembered that day as a wonderful adolescent memory.
Being a teenager of course my couldn't really understand the rules since they were layed out in three or four different sections and my mind was still developing with math and logical thinking skills. So I kind of just played the way I wanted to and let it be what it was for my imagination. The fun of returning to it now is I can see how and where I misinterpreted the rules and I can now enjoy the core game more completely.
One thing that always bugged me though was how many cool ships I wanted to play that only had 10 or so Superstructure. This made for rather disappointingly quick games and never really fulfilled my imaginative needs as well as I would have liked. The Federation are way over powered as well, sheesh! Mind you, I like the Federation ships as much has the others but it just seamed rather unfair to have the system so slanted in their favor.
So having returned this winter to the STSTCS universe, one thing has lead to another and I find myself going through the ship construction manual and rebuilding many of my favorite ships to try and make them consistent with the ship construction rules and to re-balance the ship classes into a more traditional by weight system. So escorts and destroyers will be in the lower weight scales, etc. As it stands I'm currently working through the Klingon ships first and I will follow up with the Romulans afterwards. I've always loved a lot of the Klingon and Romulan designs so this is a good chance to really make some of the ships more fun to play. As it stands I intend to eventually try and release a PDF with all the ship re-balances so others can use it if they like or condemn it for all its blasphemous indulgences. As it stands at the moment I have 29 ship types for the Klingons in development, just to give you a scale of what I'm talking about. Not all the ships are being rebalanced, just the ones I think are iconic.
I've also redesigned the Starship Control Sheets so they fit on one page. After a few playing sessions with it I'll add that to what I'm releasing as well I hope.
Anyway, just playing in this universe this winter to help me get through these long cold months. Enjoying every minute of it! See you around!

Welcome to another new member! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I'm sure it will probably cause some interesting debate! In our old gaming Group, before we knew that the Ship Manuals aren't neccesarilly accurate to the Construction Manual (yes, Federation Loknar Mk V and Klingon D-2, I'm looking at you!), we upgraded the more combat capable ships with newer variants (we took the D-7 to T thru W variants, I think!). Others may differ in their own interpretations. But of course, that's the fun of this game, seeing other players coming up with their designs, backgrounds, even new Empires, or expanding on Orions, like I like to do, for example! Again, welcome. Look around, post your ideas and designs, and steal from others! Just watch your back if you steal my Orion designs! Mark

Thanks for the welcome. Yes what I love about this game the most is it can be what you want it to be, it works more on imagination rather then mindless visual dictation.
The Orions sure conjure up some interesting imaginations for sure, in fact I really like the idea of the "triangle" and all that conjures up with it, even though its been ignored and unsupported in Star Trek cannon. It just screams for all kinds of conflict and intrigues to occur in it.
In my mind STSTCS and even the RPG are far more interesting in their scope then anything done with any of the Star Trek series. I'd much prefer to reside in FASA's gaming universe then any of the series. Far more interesting ship designs as well. Which is why I still come back to it for a visit after all this time.
Again thanks for the response and see ya around!

Cheers!
