The following is the tabletop rpg events and ship combat events to the sim played out by my buddies and I today and planned through the weekend. So it will be broken up into differing parts. For now this is part 1. As had been suggested by brickwall the mission involves restitutions to the actions of Lt Harp and his cohorts as detailed here, in part 1 of that report. Enjoy!
By late 2267, the Unity had been making sizable trade deals with the subterranean race known as the Corillians based on the second planet in their home system. Attempts had been made to equally establish contact with any survivors of the first planet but investigations found the entirety of the colony there underground had in the nuclear war that sent them there not only reverted back to Stone Age development but also fallen to barbarism and cannibalism. The end result was that some kind of plague had killed them all off and left the tunnels though still fairly rich in ore and the like too polluted for now for use. The Congress then focused on the second planet. Their original trades were of specially modified atmospheric suits for Qor's nation state in exchange for prime choice of any minerals or plants. This had the result in the next year of trade to catapult Qor's state to the forefront of what remained of the Corillian government underground. However, by 2268 an uneasy revelation came to light in that former Unity Lieutenant Harp and two security guards had attacked and stolen a sizeable amount of gold and silver bars. In return the Corillian government wanted restitution for the attack and stealing of supplies. The return request of what was sought was.....odd to say the least. The Corillian people wanted sizable amounts of 'night soil' in high concentrated forms, essentially dung, poop, shit, body waste. Their reason when asked was that in the tunnels they inhabited such concentrations were hard to get from the local animal life and quite dangerous. Most of the animal's used that provided the purity and concentrated levels they needed were very dangerous carnivores. So without any other choice three Bushel Basket Mark II Heavy Freighters carrying nearly 900,000 of 'night soil' in their now quite smelly cargo holds were escorted by four Chain Lightning Mark II Destroyers and a single Beach Class Light Cruiser to ensure that the Corillian's were satisfied with the repayment the cargo holds of the escorting ships were also filled with concentrated amounts of 'night soil'. This brought the total load of transported 'night soil' to 925,000 tons. It probably set an unheard of, undesired, and probably never to be broken record of the amount of shit carried ever to one place. Of course gathering all this took almost a year though and so it was not till early 2268 that this stinky convoy was assembled and sent on its very shitty mission. The escort ships were the HHS Beach light cruiser, the HHS Twin Lighting I and HHS Twin Lighting II (both commanded by twin Orion sisters of the Scor clans), the HHS Lighting Fury, and the HHS Zoom Zoom. The three Bushel Baskets were the HHS Bread Basket, the HHS Corn Basket, and the HHS Carrot's Pride. The entire convoy was under the command from the HHS Beach by Tellarite Captain Fengo Cornwho.
The convoy despite passing by several areas frequented sometimes by rogue pirates actually got through without problems. So bad was their mission seen as that rogue pirates actually openly hailed the convoy and laughed in passing as they passed. Arriving finally though untouched after almost a weeks travel. The convoy came into the Corillian system and entered orbit as usual to the second planet. Captain Cornwho's first order was for the escort ships to be unloaded as fast as possible. This was thankfully accomplished within two days time. These same crews then set to work cleaning the wretched stench from their individual ships. However, as the fourth day dawned in orbit, Captain Cornwho was remarked to be in an even shittier mood that day because the Corillian government wanted to speak to him in person on behalf of the Unity for their apology and compensation. Grumbling along with his XO/Navigations Officer a Vulcan by the name of Roch, his ship's security chief a human by the name of Steven, and a human engineer by the name of Orion sighed and donned their dress uniforms to go planetside. Once arriving the team was led through some thankfully dry and clean tunnels to the cavern home of a Corillian merchant tycoon named Vonvon The Great. This plump clearly well overweight man at 3'0 was an amusing sight to behold, barely able to move under his own power he was chair ridden by a steam powered 'automated' chair. Still he was well cared for by his attendants and clearly very successful in his work and life. Welcoming the team into his tiny mansion they took up seats on the floor since the normal chairs could not fit them. Vonvon explained how he was to represent the Corillian interests as an ambassador. So he was requesting to come back with the convoy to Unity space. After a bit of surprise at this unexpected turn of events, Captain Cornwho finally agreed. He inquired when Vonvon would be ready to leave. Vonvon explained he would have everything in order within a few days, probably not long after the rest of the convoy would be finished unloading their 'night soil'. After being escorted back to their beam in site the team returned with relief to the HHS Beach. After then a lengthy discussion with the Corillian government on this change of events to confirm it was legitimate and formally recording the Unity's apology on their behalf to the subterranean populace, the rest of the convoy got to work unloading their shitty cargo.
During the next few days Cornwho used the down time to have his ship and the other escorts patrol the system, and perform scans and tests on the nearby Corillian Wormhole. As part of his assignment he setup listening devices and a deep space relay system to record and send information on the opening and closing of the wormhole, as well as any ships that would come through or go into it. The fact that on the other side lay the unknown but seemingly quite dangerous Tordell Empire was not lost on the Captain and the other ship's crews. The fact that the Empire it seems had not found the wormhole yet was a relief but Roch and Steven both commented in briefings how it could only be a matter of time. Still with no further choice the escorts returned to orbit day after day to get updated on the unloading of the transports. It was on what seemed the last day of shitty work though that things turned sour. A spike in sensors alerted the convoy escorts to another opening of the Wormhole, but that something was coming through! Putting all his ships on alert, they all watched coming out of the wormhole were two Tordell Fly Jacket Scouts, accompanied by one Tordell Savage Destroyer, and two Pointy Slug Transports/Assault Ships. Cornwho scrambled to send an urgent message to any ships within range to come to their aide seeing the Tordell ships emerge, but in his heart knew that any response would take days or more to arrive, in effect they were on their own come what may. Turning to his communications officer before calling for battle stations he told them to inform the Corillian people of the Tordell's arrival and their possible threat, then called for battle stations. ==End Part 1== Enjoy!

By late 2267, the Unity made sizable trade deals with the Corillians, a subterranean race based on their home system's second planet. Equal attempts were made to contact their colony on the first planet. But investigations found their settlement soon decayed into Stone Age barbarism and cannibalism. Their end came after an unknown plague finished them off, leaving their ore-rich tunnels too polluted to use.
The Congress then focused on the second planet. Original trades were of specially modified atmospheric suits for Qor's nation state in exchange for prime choice of any minerals or plants. The next year of trade catapulted Qor to dominate the remnants of Corillian authority.
By New Year's Day 2268, however, news emerged that former Unity Lieutenant Harp and two security guards attacked and stole a huge amount of gold and silver bars. The native government demanded restitution for the theft and assault. What was sought was.....odd to say the least.
The Corillians wanted sizable amounts of 'night soil' in high concentrated forms for fertilizing their farms. In short, tons and tons of manure. When asked why, they confessed the local animal life's dung was hard to get and quite dangerous. The animal's used were very dangerous carnivores that provided the purity and concentrated levels they needed.
So reluctantly, three Bushel Basket Mark II heavy freighters would carry 925,000 tons of 'night soil' in their noxious cargo holds. Four Chain Lightning Mark II destroyers and a Beach-class light cruiser would escort them to ensure that the “agricultural reparations” were safely delivered. Collecting the tons of manure took nine months. It wasn't till late 2268 that the convoy and escorts were assembled and sent on it's way. In Commerce Command, it set an undesired and unbroken record of the amount of dung ever carried to one place.
The escort ships were the light cruiser HHS Beach, the destroyers HHS Twin Lighting I and HHS Twin Lighting II (both commanded by twin Orion sisters of the Scor clans), the HHS Lighting Fury, and the HHS Zoom Zoom. The three Bushel Baskets were the HHS Bread Basket, the HHS Corn Basket, and the HHS Carrot's Pride. The Beach was made flagship of the convoy under the command of the Tellarite captain Fengo Cornwho. He was promoted to Battle Commodore for the mission's duration.
It took a week's travel from the Triple Capitol to arrive at Corillia. However it's passage didn't go unnoticed to the local rogue pirate clan. Shocked at seeing so few freighters guarded by so many warships, the pirates openly hailed the convoy and asked what they were protecting. When told what the cargo was, they let it pass by while doubled over in scornful laughter.
When the convoy arrived at their destination, Cornwho ordered the freighters unloaded as fast as possible. As day four in orbit dawned, Cornwho greeted it in a foul mood. The Corillian government demanded a public apology on behalf of the Unity from him...personally. Grumbling that he was no diplomat, he donned his dress uniform to go planetside. He took along with him his Vulcan XO and Navigation Officer Roch, his human security chief Stevens and human chief engineer O'Ryan. On arrival the team was led through some dry clean tunnels to the cavern home of native merchant tycoon Vonvon The Great.
This amusingly plump man at 3'0” was an sight to behold, unable to move by himself without aid from his steam powered 'automated' chair. Well cared for by his attendants, he was named “The Great” for his unprecedented success in his work and life. Welcoming the team into his tiny mansion, they sat on the floor since native normal chairs couldn't fit them. Vonvon announced that the Corillian government appointed him as ambassador. He asked to return with them to the Triple Capitol. Surprised at this unexpected turn of events, Captain Cornwho agreed. Vonvon also inquired if anything can be done to clean up the world's atmosphere. Roch mentioned research in that matter that looked promising. Pleased, Vonvon promised he'd be ready as soon as the freighters unloaded their 'night soil'.
Relieved, Cornwho and his team beamed back to the Beach. They asked the Corillian government to confirm what Vonvon said was legitimate. They in turn formally recorded the Unity's apology to their citizens. Unloading the remaining manure was done in two days, followed by a thorough deodorizing.
During the unloading, Cornwho had his warships thoroughly scan the system and the nearby Corillian Wormhole. As part of his orders, his ships set up detectors and a deep space relay system to record and send data on the wormhole's opening and closing. Furthermore, they'd send information on any ships passing through or go into it. The unknown but dangerous Tordell Empire was on the other side. So far, the Empire hadn't found the wormhole yet. But in their briefings with Cornwho, both Roch and Stevens said it was only a matter of time that they would. It took another three days for the freighters to eliminate the stench of manure, allowing the Beach and her destroyers to complete their surveys.
Things turned sour on the day Vonvon and his retinue were scheduled to beam aboard the Carrot's Pride. A sensor spike alerted the convoy to another opening of the wormhole, but that something was coming through! Cornwho put all ships on red alert, as they all watched two Fly Jacket scouts, a Savage destroyer and two Pointy Slug transports exit the wormhole. Cornwho sent an urgent message to any ships within range to come to their aide. He knew any response would take days to arrive at this distance, but procedure was procedure and that was that. He then sent a message to Corillian authorities of the Tordell ships' arrival and their possible threat, then called for the ship's disruptors to full battle readiness.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” he said over the ship's intercom. “Some uninvited guests have just arrived. It's time to teach them some manners. Ready yourselves. For God and the Unity!”

Greetings once more everyone! Very sorry for the delays in posting the second part of this battle! But between my work, issues with my 99 year old grandfather, and the COVID-19 booster I got on Friday I just have been so busy or sickly that I didn't have the time to post this, but while I'm waiting for some script/server updates to run on the Cloud systems I manage I got some time here and there today to post the update! So yay, here we go! Again for a refresher this was ran by my college buddies and me about three weeks back now, they played the Unity I played the Tordell. As is also our usual practice we mixed the RPG and Ship Combat systems in our ongoing campaign. Enjoy! For notes Captain Cornwho is played by my buddy Brandon on the HHS Beach, my buddy Sam plays the twin Orion sisters on the HHS Twin Lighting I/II, and my buddy Shawn took the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom, while my buddy Tom took command of all three Baskets.
ORDER OF BATTLE - - Kephan Unity
CL - - HHS Beach (flagship) - - Capt. Fengo Cornwho [temporary promotion to Battle Commodore for the duration of the mission] DD - - HHS Twin Lightning I - - Capt. Zaza Scor DD - - HHS Twin Lightning II - - Capt. Yaya Scor DD - - HHS Lightning Fury - - Capt. Nashville Young DD - - HHS Zoom Zoom - - Capt. Nanook
Convoy “Horatio Knox” HHS Bread Basket - - Capt. Qamama HHS Corn Basket - - Capt. Fakakta HHS Carrot's Pride - - Capt. Basura Lixo
ORDER OF BATTLE - - Tordell Empire
DD - - Savage-class SC - - Fly Jacket-class SC - - Fly Jacket-class Trans - - Pointy Slug-class Trans - - Pointy Slug-class
Victory Conditions:
Unity: Option 1) Destroy all Tordell ships attacking. Option 2) Make a run for the Corillian Wormhole with one or more ships and hold the four hexes near its opening position for 2 turns while science officers attempt to collapse the wormhole, if this is accomplished all Tordell forces will make conventional efforts to retreat. Option 3) Run away with 3 or more ships to any map edge abandoning the Corillians to their fate
Tordell: Option 1) Destroy all Unity ships in defense of the system. Option 2) Successfully hold the four map hexes near the wormhole exit point without Unity interference for 10 turns. If successful further reinforcements come through forcing the Unity forces to retreat losing 3/4th of all surviving ships/supplies.
With the Tordell having arrived to the outer edges of the system. Captain Cornwho had sent out a call for any ships in range for aide, but he knew in his heart that they were on their own. Part of him considered to make a run for it, they still had the time if they moved fast, but if they did that there was a good chance their possible allies among the Corillian government would not look favorably on that and any future trade would be cut off. Not to mention that these same people were in effect defenseless to the Tordell who could do do who knew what if they found out about them. Rolling up his sleeves Cornwho nodded to himself making the choice to commit to staying and fighting.
Turning to his comm's officer, he began to send out urgent fleet orders. "..All ships are to head for the system's solar body. The Beach, Twin Lighting I/II, the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom will take up positions to the approaching force. The Bread Basket, Corn Basket, and Carrot's Pride are to hide among the corona of the star off scans and wait for further orders in ambush. Questions?" he asked, after no replies came back from his other ship captains he nodded.
As one the Unity ships came about and made fast pace on round one of combat for the system's sun. This action did not go unnoticed by the incoming Tordell ships. Leading the charge into the system the Savage Destroyer was flanked by either side of the two Fly Jacket Scouts. The slightly slower Pointy Slug Transports brought up the rear. As the round ended both forces held position within extreme weapons range near the system's sun. With the round coming to an end Captain Cornwho opened comms. =/\= Attention Tordell ships, you are entering Unity controlled space. You are hereby ordered to depart back where you came to your own borders through the wormhole and not return. =/\= He stated.
There was a pause before the comm line was returned. =/\= We of the Tordell Empire do not care who you are, we have come to claim this system in the name of the expansion of the Empire under Empress Unknown Word/Name!! Instead we give you one chance to depart with your ship's still intact to spread word of our claim on this system to our expanding borders. Failure to comply will see your destruction without mercy. =/\= The male voice boomed.
=/\= Alright then, seems neither of us are leaving. I hope you feel just as cocky once I bury your head in the remains of our cargo holds! =/\= Cornwho said cutting comms then. Barking out orders to his commanders then, "..Twin Lighting I/II flank to port, Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom, flank to starboard. I'll take point, all transports remain hidden. These ships seem to operate better the more of them there are as long as they keep within a certain radius of them. Try to break them up!" he said.
The second round of combat began. All Unity ships on the combat line powered shields in the forward arcs to full, the same with their weapons. The Beach took point, while the Twin Lighting I/II took flanks to port and the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom flanked to starboard. The Beach went after the Savage destroyer, while the Twin Lightings made a run for the two scouts. The Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom made their movements wider making a run for the assault ships at the rear of the attacking fleet. The Tordell for now moved carefully, the Savage Destroyer and two Fly Jackets kept together unfortunately, collectively banking to port to address the maneuvers by the Beach and Twin Lighting I/II. This though left their flanks open to the starboard/aft quarters as the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom went back making a run on the Pointy Slugs. Weapon fire soon was joined. Both Twin Lighting I/II operated as one opening up with their disruptors as they closed in on the first scout. Their shots lanced along the polarized hull plating of the scout doing minor damage individually but together they were able to pierce its protections some and land minor hull damage. The Beach meanwhile opened up on the Savage destroyer with all forward disruptors armed. The shots seared along the ship's hull initially absorbed by the hull plating but further impacts soon broke through causing more minor damage to its hull. Meanwhile the flanking Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom opened up at extreme range on the aft flanks of the Savage destroyer as they passed by all but one of their long range shots missed, but the one that did hit struck along the quarter of the unprotect hull where one of the destroyers impulse reactors was, this shot landed causing moderate damage there. With their shots spent the last movement of these two Unity ships would bring them within weapon range of the Pointy Slug Transports in the next round. Return fire of course from the Tordell ships was fierce. The destroyer closed fast on the Beach opening up with their energy weapons, four shots went out but only one struck home on the Beach, but even that was telling as their shields in the forward arc were utterly knocked down. Thankfully no further damage was given. The Fly Jackets returned fire individually on each Twin Lighting. Again their energy weapons struck out the first Fly Jacket hit four times on the Twin Lighting I, three shots breaking down the forward shields, while the fourth lanced then along the ship's forward hull line doing some damage to crew and the hull in that area. The second barrage by the second Fly Jacket on the Twin Lighting II was less striking, two of the four shots missed, the remaining two knocked aside the shields, and some bled through to the hull causing minor damage there. As the round ended the still hidden Bushel Baskets remained hidden and undetected by the Tordell forces near the solar system's sun. Their shields minimally powered, but all forward weapons primed and engines primed for movement when called.
As the third round began, movement slowed on both sides each taking the measure of the other. With the main Tordell combat ships remaining together the danger they presented was greater as a whole. Cornwho's hope to split up all three groups had only bee partially successful. As weapons fire began to lance out once more it was first the turn of the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom to make their mark in the heat of battle. Both ships opened up on the lead Pointy Slug hoping to disable or give it a bloody nose. Of the 12 concentrated shots 10 landed home on the forward arc of the first transport. The plating gave its best effort but in the end it had no hope and failed. Searing then through the ship's armor the continued concentrated barrage of fire ended up cutting a swath through the ship's core superstructure, the first to go was the transport's single warp engine housing, next was one of its two impulse reactors, in the end the massive blow proved too much for the first transport to take and it exploded in shards of metal and debris. With their barrage spent and the first blood of the battle given to the Unity the second transport came about and returned fire on the Zoom Zoom. Three of the four possible emitters of the ship's energy weapons opened up, two landed home knocking aside the forward/port shields on the Zoom Zoom, more fire came in from the transport by its high powered missile weapon which impacted heavily on the Zoom Zoom's port impulse housing damaging it to minimal levels of operation and impacting crew efficiency. On the other side of the battle, the Savage destroyer came up and opened up on the Beach all four of its energy beam weapons though missed by quick action on the part of the ship's helm officer. But this put it in the sights of the incoming barrage of missile weapons. Of the six shots fired, 4 struck home. Repeated pounding into the Beach's shields in the forward starboard arc saw them quickly fall again, and bleed through utterly knocked out the OD-5 disruptor system and minor damage to crew and the ship's hull. The Fly Jacket Scouts meanwhile opened up in concentrated patterns on each of the Twin Lighting I/II. The first of the Lightings was struck along the port beam with several beam shots missing the single shot which did land was absorbed by the shields there and no further damage was reported. The second of the Lightings was struck to starboard by the other scout. Four lancing energy shots hit home here though, knocking side the ship's shields, searing off one of the four nacelles, and badly damaging one of the two impulse reactors and the ship's hull frame. Missile shots from both scouts thankfully missed either destroyer due to evasive maneuvers. Of course in return the Unity ships gave as good as they could get, the Beach had been able to open fire with all energy weapons before the impact of the Tordell destroyer would knock out their OD-5. Once more the combined energy fire was brought to bear and succeeded this time in breaking through the thick plating of the Destroyer's protections. Causing moderate damage to one of the ship's four impulse engines. The Twin Lighting I/II decided this round to concentrate together on a single Fly Jacket Scout. Together their lancing energy fire of 12 shots blasted through the scout's protections and much still carried through to the hull. The plating was sheared off in many places, and internal ruptures caused great crew losses. In the end the breaches proved too much for the scout to take and it blew up in a fireball. Once again as the round neared its end the Bushel Baskets remained hidden nearby minimally shielded in the forward arc, all forward weapons primed, and engines ready to spring out when called.
With the fourth round beginning Cornwho took stock of his ship and fleet's status. The Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom were in solid shape, though the Zoom Zoom was operating with reduced impulse power. For now they were told to finish off the second transport this round. Twin Lighting I was in good shape it seemed, but the Twin Lighting II was in a bad way leaking heavily with drive plasma and motive power. His own ship meanwhile had its main 'heavy' disruptor destroyed and their overall hull status had seen better days he reflected. "..Twin Lighting I, cover your sister on the II, both of you fall back to the sun's corona. The Beach will do the same." he ordered, meanwhile orders got prepped for the Baskets to make their ambush ready this round soon as the Tordell ships came within effective range "..Wait till their almost within point blank range to fire!" he said. Getting return signals from all ships he opened another comm to the Destroyer. =/\= Well Tordell ships, seems your efforts to show us no mercy are not living up to your claims! Sure you do not want to retreat back through the wormhole yet, while you still have some semblance to do so? As you can see we Kephan's aren't going to just roll over and give up! =/\= He taunted.
=/\= Fools! It matters not the outcome here, even if somehow you do destroy us all more shall come, and more after that. You can not hope to overcome our fleets! The Empresses reign upon your filthy culture shall be brutal and without end! =/\= Came an enraged male voice again.
Cornwho took one important clue from that exchange, the Tordell Captain was correct, if not today then later more ships would come through that wormhole. Making a quick change of orders he opened comms to the Zoom Zoom and Lighting Fury =/\= Change of plan boys, once you finish off that transport make haste to the wormhole! Find a way to collapse it quickly! We'll buy you time here and keep them off your backs.=/\= He said, getting confirmation in return.
With the fourth round beginning the first movements of things came once more from the Lighting Fury and Zoom Zoom, both ships came about once more on the slowly lumbering transport which itself was making a run to join up with its remaining Tordell ships to capatalize on the boons they gained from working close together. But due to protecting itself from multiple angles, and unable to have yet gotten a moment to launch its small fighter wing to support the actions the flanking attacking Unity ships closed in. Once more 12 concentrated disruptor shots went out, but only 8 struck home, the combined fire split between port and starboard aft arcs meant little though, the polarized hull was beaten aside and the remaining energy carried through into the transports internal structure. Secondary damage earlier from the first transport's loss meant that the second transport too soon fire bloomed. In its depth throes though its explosion caught the more damaged Zoom Zoom in its breath. Its shields were battered aside and due to the earlier damages to its forward quarter the damage proved too much too to the Zoom Zoom and it to was destroyed. Now alone the Lighting Fury's Captain gave only a brief pause to mourn the loss of its comrade and then began to turn about to make haste for the wormhole alone. Meanwhile closer to the sun, the Beach and Twin Lighting I/II made best speed for the ambush point with the Baskets. With all power to their aft quarter shields and movement little was left over for any of the three ships to arm weapons. With the Savage destroyer and last Fly Jacket Scout in hot pursuit the two enemy ships opened up. This time having learned their lessons to use their strengths to their benefit and follow more usual Empire attack doctrine. The Savage opened up on the rear quarter of the already damaged Twin Lighting II sensing its weakness. While its remaining shots went to the Beach, the Fly Jacket in turn concentrated on the Beach as well. Three of the four shots from the destroyer lanced into the rear of the Twin Lighting II, its shields were simply overmatched, and knocked aside with carry through further damaging what little remained of the earlier damage nacelle and further damaging the already taxed superstructure. A trio of missile fire also came its way but only one shot hit out of the three. This hit though proved too much, and in a firebloom the Twin Lighting II exploded into debris. Further the Beach itself was struck by a single energy strike from the destroyer and two more out of another four from the scout. Once more the Beach's shields were battered aside, and the aft disruptor there was utterly destroyed. Shield emitters too were taken offline for further use and ship's impulse engine was reduced to minimal levels. Crew injuries were also severe as more strikes hit home with missile impacts. Somehow by some miracle the Beach though held on, but was effectively now a disarmed, lame duck. Only one of its forward KD-3 disruptors was capable of receiving power and firing. The shield emitters across the ship were effectively inoperable or on minimal power. Motive power was virtually nil at best and crew injuries were cathosprhic with hull breaches being reported across all decks. Coughing on his ruined bridge, Captain Cornwho somehow got a signal out to the Twin Lighting I to take overall command of the fleet until he could try to restore some kind of order on what remained of his ship. Already grieving at the loss of her twin sister the first sister accepted command and ordered the Baskets to come out of hiding and attack!
OOC: Aka the Beach was down to 1 SS!
The Baskets moment to shine had come, slowly coming out of the sun's corona and glare, they closed to point blank range with minimal shields but all forward weapons armed. The Captain of the lead Basket on the Bread Basket had all three ships focus fire on the closer Fly Jacket Scout. Of the nine shots of disruptor and phaser fire sent out 8 struck home on the Scout. Its plating was overwhelmed eventually and carry through hits saw the scout's single warp engine mounting utterly destroyed! Secondary hull damage was also seen but the scout though damaged greatly was still intact. With the round nearing its end, the Baskets had joined the fray alongside the Twin Lighting I, and the adrift Beach. Meanwhile the Lighting Fury was making best speed to the Corillian Wormhole.
With the fifth round beginning, the last remaining Orion sister of the Scor clan was out for blood and vengeance for the death of her twin sister. "..All ships form up on me! Concentrate fire on the destroyer!.." She spat through open comms. The Twin Lighting I accompanied by the Baskets closed with all speed on the Savage destroyer and opened up on it in the forward arc of the combined fire though of disruptor and phaser fire only 6 shots landed home on the enemy ship. Damage took away the enemy's plating and did further damage to the ship's superstructure and minimal damage to their forward weapons but the ship was intact. Return fire came first from the badly damaged Scout was a single energy beam shot and two missile shots. All three struck home on the Corn Basket, its shields gave a good effort but they collapsed soon enough, and carry through damage saw one of its nacelles blown away and the transport as a result was for now useless until repair teams could get a handle on the damage. The Savage in return opened up on the Twin Lighting I and the Carrot's Pride. Split with weapons fire two energy lances and three missile attacks hit the Twin Lighting I, the destroyer's shields were overwhelmed and internal ruptures to the weapon systems was severe knocking them out fully, shields were also in the forward arc a lost cause and further damage got reported by the ship's warp engines. All in total though the damage proved too much for the Twin Lighting I and over an open comm it was said by reports from the Lighting Fury that its final message was =/\= I shall see you soon sister =/\= as it fireballed in destruction. The Carrot's Pride shield's held but just barely avoiding further damages.
The Lighting Fury meanwhile had finally reached its station point near the wormhole and began analysis of how to collapse it. More time was needed, with loss of the Twin Lighting I, and the Beach out of commission the Zoom Zoom's captain ordered the Baskets to do what they could to hold the line for him. Nervous return replies came in but the next round was it seems going to decide what the outcome of the fight would be.
The sixth round began to look grim for both sides the Beach was still adrift and useless. The last two Baskets stood alone against a far superior force but no other options were at hand, they could not run now, they had only the choice to fight. Powering shields and weapons to full and little left for motive power the two Baskets again opened fire on the Savage destroyer. Once more their combined fire hit home in concert knocking aside the plating and searing into the core of the enemy ship. By luck they were surprised to see it finally firebloom in destruction. But in its death throes it had gotten off some parting shots to both transports. Energy weapons fire on both transports hit home hard, damaging both ships shields, missile fire further did them in and carried through to the ship's hull. The Bread Basket's twin nacelles were blown away and its impulse reactor equally destroyed causing power to drop across the ship and leaving the crew to operate only on emergency power, somehow someone was watching over them for now and the ship held together. The Carrot's Pride meanwhile equally took heavy blows, their shields were utterly destroyed, and their one of two nacelles blown off. Further damage destroyed the transports Klingon disruptor systems. With the loss of the Destroyer its explosion caught both ships in its wake, for the Bread Basket it proved too much and the stumbling about confused crew had little warning before their lives too were snuffed out. The Carrot's Pride a little better off survived the explosion but was tossed around badly. But now closing for the kill was the badly damaged Fly Jacket. Firing the last of its energy and missile weapons still in operation all three struck home, finishing off the Carrot's Pride, but in a last ditch effort to take them with him the Carrot's Pride's chief engineer was able to eek out a bit more power in the damaged reactor and combined together the explosion caught the Fly Jacket in its wake finishing the Scout off!
At the far end of the system the Lighting Fury still intact observed this final sacrifice. But it did not matter right now, it's science team had managed to devise a way to collapse the wormhole and it seems had done so successfully ending for now the threat of further Tordell ships from coming by a short cut into Unity space from this direction.
Battle Results:
Minor Unity Victory!
With the Beach disabled, the Lighting Fury soon returned to help repair the stricken cruiser, towing it by tractor beam into a stable orbit around the Corillian homeworld. The Lighting Fury's Captain informed the underground populace of the Unity's sacrifice and defense of their system. As agreed the tycoon Vonvon The Great came aboard the Lighting Fury to return to Kephan space to represent his people's interest in the future. With heartfelt thanks and further promises of trade to come, the Lighting Fury took undertow the Beach and began the lengthy return trip alone to the safety of Unity space. Thankfully no rogue pirate groups attacked the returning ships. In the weeks to follow the Beach was repaired and eventually returned to service. So too was the Lighting Fury. Fleet Admiral R'Archer though was heard to order patrols made by the Romulan Outcast group among the Green Squadron to shift its patrol routes to further unexplored space. To try to seek out where the limits of the Empire were. He also directed recovery teams and ships to the Corillan system to attempt to salvage any remains of the Tordell ships.

Small update this mission/attack happened in late 2268 to concide with the earlier Silentmeister mission which itself happened in early 2268 not 69 like I originally said.

Happy Ash Wednesday everyone! Please permit me to expand the first round of this scenario with some drama. I hope it will put a smile on your face. Rarcher, multiple thumbs-up on this with many thanks!

“Stevens?” said Cornwho, glancing at his security chief. “You have something on your mind?”
“Sir, forgive me for playing devil's advocate here. But we still can exit the system if we move fast. I mean the entire squadron, that is. We'll need the backup in light of the unknowns we're facing.”
“And abandon the Corillians to their fate, whatever it is? Good, bad or indifferent, we represent the Unity.” He struck his chest with his fist. “We don't scatter like cockroaches when the light's turned on. If the day ever dawns when we finally strike Star Fleet to liberate YOUR ancestral homeworld, will you have the same fears? Will you cower before a squadron of Mirandas and Saladins and beg them to spare your life?”
“We are the first and only line of defense for the Corillians,” added Roch. “It wouldn't be logical to depart without discerning the Tordellian's military capabilities to the full. Tri-Planetary Command needs that information.”
“We are expendable,” Cornwho growled, pointing at Stevens. “The Cause is not! Mister Beverly?”
“Awaiting your orders, sir,” said his communications officer.
“Open channels to the rest of the squadron, highest security level.” Anxious seconds passed as the deed was done.
“All captains acknowledging, sir.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Battle Commodore's orders. We'll let this system's sun aid us in our defense. All freighters will hide around the star's corona to mess up enemy scanners. You'll await further instructions when done. All destroyers will assume standard positions with the Beach. Two of you to port, two to starboard. Raise shields, charge weapons and make your peace with God. Acknowledge.”
“Carrot's Pride answering for the other freighters,” bellowed Basura Lixo, it's captain. “You're not an actor on the stage, sir. No need to recite Mark Anthony's speech before the Romans, if you get my drift. We'll be ready.”
“Thank you, fellow Tellarite,” he grumbled. “Ready to argue even when battle awaits. Such a living stereotype, aren't you? Scor sisters, are you there?”
“As always,” said the elder Orion commanding the Twin Lightning I. “Orders received.”
“Understood,” said the younger Orion in charge of the Twin Lightning II. “With you all the way.”
“Good. Captain Nanook? Is the Zoom Zoom awake?”
“Yes, sir. Mean, lean and full of caffeine.”
Roch raised an eyebrow in surprise. An embarrassed Stevens hid his face with both hands.
“Thus speaks a living ad for the coffee industry,” Cornwho sighed. “Captain Young, I'll assume the Lightning Fury is getting it's act together?”
“Ready to get the job done, sir. Just say where and when.”
“Ahead of us and now, Mister Young.”
On the main screen, the Savage-class destroyer faced them all flanked by both Fly Jacket scouts. The Pointy Slug transports brought up their rear.
“Mister Beverly, hail the enemy destroyer. Tie-in the universal translator just in case. Let's get the formalities out of the way.”
“One moment, sir. They're accepting our hail.”
“Tordellian vessels, this is Battle Commodore Fengo Cornwho of the Kephan Unity Star Navy. You have entered the space of our new allies without their permission. Identify yourselves and your purposes or return where you came from. Please acknowledge.”
Seconds passed filled with static.
“Attention, inferiors,” came a booming male voice, making the entire bridge wince. “We of the Tordell Empire care not who you are. We claim this system and all in it in the name of the Empress. We give you one chance to depart with your ships still intact to respect our claim to this system. You will not oppose our expanding our borders. Failure to comply will see your destruction without mercy. Obey and be gone!”
The Tellarite chuckled. “Pride doesn't become you, sir. I hope you feel just as cocky once I bury your head in the remains of our cargo holds! Ending signal.” He spun his chair to face Roch. “I need an immediate analysis of their squadron.”
“These ships seem to operate better the more of them there are as long as they keep within a certain radius.”
“All right then. Let's break them up.” He returned to face the screen, a fist punching his open palm. “All destroyers, concentrate fire on the scouts. We'll take care of the flagship for you. Have at them!”

Many thanks, Rarcher. I like your guy Cornwho. Now he is a Tellarite you'd like to buy a drink for, especially dealing with what he had to deal with. If it is okay with you and the rest of the posters here, I'll next get going on parts two and three. I'll include your grandfather in my daily prayer intentions. Have a safe and happy weekend to come!

Hello again, all! It's been five months plus, but I promised I'd work on parts two and three and the next dialogues. So here they are. I hope it meets with your approval.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
The second round of combat began. All Unity ships powered forward arc shields and weapons to full. As ordered, Beach took point, aiming for the Savage-class. Both Twin Lightnings covered port-side with their cross-hairs on both enemy scouts. Meanwhile the Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom watched the starboard, ready to strike the invader's assault ships.
The Savage and both Fly Jackets kept together, banking to port to counter the Kephans. This left their flanks open to starboard as two of the Chain Lightnings aimed for the transports. The Scor sisters' destroyers opened fire on the first scout. Their disruptor shots lanced along the scout's polarized hull plating, piercing its protections and scarring the hull. The Beach did the same against the Savage with similar results.
Meanwhile the Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom opened up at extreme range on the destroyer's rear. All but one of their shots missed. The one that hit home struck the unprotected hull where it's impulse reactors was, causing moderate damage. With their shots spent, both Unity ships now aimed for the Pointy Slugs.
Tordellian return fire was fierce. The Savage closed fast on the Beach. Four shots went out but only one hit. The Beach's forward shields were knocked down with no further damage. The Fly Jackets returned fire on each Twin Lightning. The first Fly Jacket hit four times on the Twin Lightning I, three shots collapsing the forward shields. The fourth lanced the forward hull line, damaging the crew quarters. The second Fly Jacket struck the Twin Lightning II with similar results.
The Bushel Baskets remained hidden near the sun. Shields were on minimum, forward weapons were primed, engine movement on standby.
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + As the third round began, both sides took measure of each other. Cornwho's hope to split up the enemy quintet had limited success.
The Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom concentrated their fire on the lead Pointy Slug. Ten of their twelve shots landed home on the transport's forward arc. The plating broke, the disruptors cutting a swath through the ship's superstructure. First to go was the warp engine housing, then one of its two impulse reactors. It's end was swift, dying in a massive explosion.
The second transport came about and returned fire on the Zoom Zoom. Three of it's four energy weapons opened up, with two beams disabling the Chain Lightning's forward/port shields. Then it's missile weapon hit the Zoom Zoom's port impulse housing, causing major damage.
In the meantime, the Savage unloaded a barrage on the Beach. Yet all four of it's energy weapons missed thanks to the light cruiser's quick thinking chief helmsman. However this put it in the sights of the Tordellian's missile weapons. Four of the six shots struck home, collapsing the Beach's forward shields again. They further disabled the OD-5 disruptor system.
Both Fly Jackets focused their shots on the Scor sisters' ships. The first Twin Lightning's port shields absorbed the first scout's fire easily. The other scout struck the second Twin Lightning's starboard shield. Four of it's energy shots knocked out the shields, seared off one of the four warp nacelles. They also badly damaged an impulse reactor and it's hull frame. But their missiles missed both destroyers due to their evasive maneuvers.
Before the Beach's disruptor was put out of action, it's weapons broke through the Savage's thick plating to inflict moderate damage to one of the ship's four impulse engines. Both of the Twin Lightnings aimed for the remaining Fly Jacket. Twelve disruptors combined to ravish and rupture the scout's protections. It blew up in a fireball of red and orange fury.
The Bushel Basket convoy stayed still where they were.

“Roch,” asked Cornwho, rubbing his hands. “Give me a situation report.”
“The Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom are still active, though the latter is operating with reduced impulse power. Twin Lightning I is in good shape. Twin Lightning II is leaking heavily with drive plasma and has reduced motive power. As for us, our main 'heavy' disruptor is destroyed.”
“And our overall hull status had seen better days, eh?” he reflected. “It figures. Mister Beverly, hail our captains, if you please.”
“One moment, sir. And.......all ships answering our hail.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Battle Commodore's new orders. The Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom will finish off that second transport. Twin Lightning One, cover your sister on the Two. Both of you fall back to the sun's corona. We will do likewise. Carrot's Pride, you and your fellows make ready to ambush the enemy as soon as they come within effective range."
“In other words,” came the sharp reply. “Don't fire 'till you see the whites of their eyes. Our century's answer to the Battle of Bunker Hill on Earth, so on and so forth. Am I right?”
“Save your arguing until later, if you please,” Cornwho growled. “Just strike them when within point blank range! Ending signal!". He scratched his beard, signaled his security chief. “Stevens, a question. How long will it take to get that heavy disruptor back on line?”
“Not while we're in battle, sir. If what I'm getting from Engineering is correct, we can't even do minimum repairs as it is.”
“All right then. Let's buy ourselves some time. Even if it is only a few seconds. Beverly, hail the enemy destroyer. Tie-in the translator again as well.”
“Stand by, sir....and their accepting our hail.”
“Good.” He cleared his throat, rubbed his hands again. “Tordellian vessel, this is Battle Commodore Fengo Cornwho again. Perhaps I'm just guessing, but it seems your efforts to show us no mercy are not living up to your claims!”
“Fools!” came the bitter reply. “It matters not the outcome here, even if somehow you do destroy us all. More shall come, and more after that.”
“So that I'm not talking to a machine by mistake, do you have a proper name?”
Stevens' jaw dropped while Roch raised both eyebrows.
“I am Senior Commander Khazeer.”
“Thank you, sir,” he said, a taunting grin on his face. ”I'd like to make a suggestion to you and your fellow warriors. While you still have some semblance to do so, perhaps you might retreat back through the wormhole to your home stars. Have you no diplomats available to present your claims without reaching for swords? As you can see, we Kephans won't be so easily pushed around.”
“You can not hope to overcome our fleets! We laugh at your puny defenses. You yourselves are as wounded as we. If you were as smart as you pretend to be, you'd back down and grovel before us.”
Beverly made a face, shook his head at the Tordellian's arrogance.
“Khazeer, I'm relying on mere mathematics here. You had five ships striking us. You're now down to two. Your ship alone looks quite...ragged. Surely this alone would counsel you to go back home.”
“We are but dust between the Empress's toes,” he raged. “It doesn't matter if we win today or not. Your filthy lives will have a brutal end! Count on it!” The signal cut out with a sharp rap.
Cornwho scratched his beard again, cleared his throat. “Mister Beverly, hail the Zoom Zoom and the Lightning Fury.”
“One moment, sir.... yes. They are answering hail.”
“Mister Young, Mister Nanook, change of plan for you two. Finish off that transport, then make haste for the wormhole! Find a way to collapse it quickly! We'll buy you time here and keep them off your backs. Acknowledge.”
“Orders received and obeyed,” said Young.
“We'll get it done, sir,” said Nanook.

Hi, folks. As promised, here is parts four and five of the battle. I hope this meets with your approval. Rarcher, again, thank you very, very much for the original posts. Onward and upward!
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Both the Lightning Fury and Zoom Zoom flung themselves at the slow lumbering remaining Pointy Slug. It struggled to keep up with the Savage to capitalize on working close together. It had yet to unleash it's small fighter wing to support the destroyer as the Unity ships closed in.
Eight out of the twelve disruptor shots hit home, hitting the transport on both sides. It's polarized hull was cast aside, the remaining energy riddling each inch of the internal structure. Damages from the other transport's loss led to the Pointy Slug's fiery death. But in it's death throes, it's explosion caught the Zoom Zoom in it's clutches. The battered shields fell, exposing both metal and men to total destruction.
The Lightning Fury paused in it's flight to mourn the loss of their comrades aboard the Zoom Zoom. Captain Young led his crew in the Prayers for the Dead over his ship's intercom before his destroyer made haste towards the wormhole.
Meanwhile the Beach and both Twin Lightnings rushed to their rendezvous with the freighter convoy. With all their power diverted to rear shields and movement, little energy remained for weapons. Both surviving Tordellian warships pursued their Kephan foes toward the sun, reverting to their standard tactics for offense. The Savage aimed for the Twin Lighting Two's damaged stern, three of it's four shots lancing into it. Her shields were knocked aside, rupturing the already taxed superstructure. A trio of missile fire followed with two of the three missing. The last one hit home, shredding the ship in a bright furious firebloom. Then both destroyer and scout turned on the Beach. One shot from the Savage and two from the Fly Jacket crashed through the shields, wrecking the aft disruptor. Another missile barrage reduced impulse engines to minimal levels. The light cruiser still crawled forward, it's weaponry reduced to one of its forward KD-3 disruptors. Hull breaches riddled all her decks. Crew injuries were catastrophic.
Coughing on his ruined bridge, Cornwho got to Beverly's station, sent a signal to the Twin Lighting One.
“Zaza,” he said, “we're toasted like a roasted Argellian crenin. For now, take over command of the fleet until I restore some kind of order on what remains here.” “Understood, sir.”
“I don't want to sound cold, my friend. But save your tears for Yaya and her crew until after you deal with these....these monsters. Bring justice to your sister's memory.”
“That I will, sir. Count on it. Just keep your comm station open, if you please.”
“Done. Stevens, get on your feet and give us a hand here!”
“Lixo,” said the Orion captain to the Carrot's Pride. “Did you pick up what he said?” “Naturally.”
“Then you and yours can come out of hiding now. If you know what I mean.”
“Say no more, lady. The day will be ours, you'll see. All ships, aim for the smaller enemy vessel. Fire on my signal.”
The trio of Bushel Baskets crept out from the glare of the sun's corona. With shields on minimum, all forward weapons were charged. Their disruptor and phaser fire struck home on the scout's single warp engine destroying it. Though still intact, the Tordellian craft's hull was scarred all over.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Zaza Scor was out for blood. Angry tears streamed from her eyes as she growled out her orders. "All ships form up on me,” she spat through the open comms. “Concentrate fire on the destroyer. Fire at will!"
The remaining Kephan ships closed in on the Savage. Their combined disruptor and phaser fire erupted on the Savage, yet only six shots landed home. Though the ship remained intact, the hull plating melted under Unity fire. The Tordellian destroyer split it's aim with two energy lances and three missile attacks hitting the Twin Lightning One. Her shields were overwhelmed, her weapon systems and warp engines were knocked out. The Carrot's Pride shield's barely held during the melee.
Over her open comm, she hailed the Beach. “Sir, when you get back to Kepha...let my family know...I died thinking of them. Yaya...wait for me, sister. I shall see you soon.” Loud static replaced her voice as her ship exploded and ended all messages. The wounded Fly Jacket scout struck the Corn Basket with an energy beam and two missile shots. They collapsed the shields, smashing one of it's nacelles. The repair teams got to work getting a handle on the damage.
Meanwhile the Lightning Fury reached its station point near the wormhole, analyzing how to collapse it. Captain Young pressured his science team to get fast results, then begged the freighters to hold the line for him. All three Bushel Baskets returned nervous replies, with Basura Lixo of the Carrot's Pride threatening to haunt him as a ghost if he didn't speed things up.
