Here's something related to further campaign development by my buddy Brandon who plays the Romulan Outcast Salen Heishen, found here. As outlined she now commands a quite influential trade corporation among the KUSN called the Heishen Corporation, which mainly deals in 'high risk, high reward' colony/mining efforts on behalf of the KUSN. Recently in one of our mainly RPG sessions Brandon and his fellow players (playing other minor pc/npcs assisting in this development!) decided to have a 'mobile trade station' designed and built for future use in the campaign for the party. So here it is! Enjoy brickwall
By early 2266 the Romulan Outcast Salen Heishen had settled into her new lot in her late life within the Kephan Unity and quickly went from a low ranking employee in several merchant/mining/colony business to controlling three of them which merged under her ownership as the Heishen Corporation in late 2265 into 2266. It quickly gained fame for taking risks others felt were too risky, dangerous, or stupid to invest in. Out of 12 ventures taken by Heishen and her corporation and partners all 12 struck pay dirt and only fueled further growth for her and the business among the KUSN. As 2266 progressed Salen made the commitment to take a more 'hands on' approach to certain deals, trades, and other efforts by her business that she felt her personal touch was needed on. As a way to show her wealth and prestige and in turn the Unity on her behalf she approached the Knip Scrapyards with several Orion partners from her own business and had them design and build a large mobile trade station for her use.
The station's provisions were to come in at a Class X weight and size. The chosen shape was that of a large spherical ball. Plush accommodations, living quarters, recreational halls, markets, trade and corporate rooms, and more filled the station from top to bottom no expenses were spared in this regard to lavish potential clients. But of course some concessions had to be made. Some of the designers on the team wanted to include a wealth of weapons, defenses, and more to make the station have 'teeth'. But in the end any such proposals was overruled by Salen.
"You idiots are being hired to build me a trade station, not a battlestation! Now follow through with what I paid you for and not one credit more!!" She declared after one heated debate including from several of her board members.
In the end defensive and offensive systems were limited all around coverage by OD-1 disruptors and OP-3 torpedoes rounded out the weapons while the Orion OSNF shielding array provided defense. Powering the station were two contouring Orion OWG-1 drive systems/nacelles, complete with four Orion OID-1 impulse reactors. This gave the station an impressive maneuvering capability at both sublight and warp speeds. The idea being that if trouble did happen it could get out quick and hopefully avoid all but the fastest of pursuers. Even with all this lavish building and equipment the station still came in underweight for its design. Approaching Salen again the designers at Knip and her own Orion engineers suggested revamping the design to a lower class weight. But Salen was having none of it, since such a retooling and redesign would mean further delays. "Are you idiots deaf and/or blind?!? I said a Class X station! So build it! Or I'll go looking elsewhere for someone who can follow instructions!" She was heard to bellow.
With no other choice the designers reinforced the internal and outer superstructure to bring it barely above the Class X standards. With the design in place, building began and by November of 2266 with barely two weeks to spare Salen Heishen took ownership of her new mobile trade station. After a thorough review, she was said to provide several small bonuses to her business designers, and another package to the Knip teams for coming in under budget and under time for delivery without cutting corners. Though in a parting exchange she also added, "If there is a next time for you all to design and build me something just follow the damn contract from the beginning, too many questions will only drive your future customers away!" she said.
Currently the Heishen mobile trade station conducts business near the Romulan Outcast colony. But is frequently seen making trips along the Unity and Federation border as well, she is also known to frequently associate with members, ships, and crews of the Romulan Outcast 'Green Squadron' when they are in her area of operations. Because of strict corporate trade and design laws that Salen put in place, no one is allowed to legally purchase or build copies of her trade station without first consulting her and getting her personal approval. Even then it is likely she would charge a hefty trademark fee for the privilege to do so.
