Thought I'd post about this here, as I've posted using Shapeways in the past in my minis modelling thread...

I hadn't had a chance to, with my money troubles. Probably don't have the space for it, either.

I'd bought from them only a few times, going for either ships that were between £7-10, in the basic material, for ships to represent FASA ships that had no minis, or occasionally in the higher resolution material for ships I really wanted to look good, or were a purchase of one mini only.

I admittedly refused to pay £15-20 (or more) for one mini, thinking that's just too much for a cruiser about three inches long.

As people have said on Facebook, that pricing fact, coupled with the lower cost of home printers and printing, probably lead to this closure.

I have a number of shapeways miniatures in my collection and for some shops (amarillo miniatures) the quality is excellent. For example the thingiverse l-24' klingon battleships tend to look more like Brad's redesign than the OG Fasa orthos. I just preferred the latter.

It's a shame they closed I had a few more items lined up, but I am glad I got what I did when I did. Need to get a 3d printer myself though I don't know where to start.
