Sooo.... think I found the problem. I am running v2.05 which is three years NEWER than v2.04. I think that may explain why ya'll are running into problems. Let me look around and see if I can find the original .zip file of v2.05.
Sorry for the frustration.
Addendum: Apparently the author of the game received a letter from CBS, stating that he had to stop distributing his game, and shut down his web site.
I have all the files, except the install file...

Hm. I wonder if this has anything to do with FASA stopping Trek back in '88 or so? Anyone have actual facts on that story? It would make a great article which should be linked to the main page!

FASA lost the license way back in 1989 due to a number of issues with Paramount - part of which was the excessive focus on the military side of Starfleet rather than exploration/adventure... The Wikipedia article pretty much nails the issues (surprise!): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Role_Playing_Game

Gene Roddenberry cracked down on all licensees once he got into place with TNG. The stories of Richard Arnold messing with the production of the novels are legendary. FASA formally lost the license by publishing works Paramount hadn't approved but then approvals of anything seemed unlikely to happen. Even SFB with its not quite a license license modified how copyrights were listed under pressure from Paramount.

No dice. It's a shame it looks like fun. Would love to see a video of the game in action. Think it would work with FRAPS?

I can run this on my Win10 machine but I had to register transpicture.ocx and now I am looking for the 2,05 patch and trying to remember how to add new bitmaps... for some reason the bmps that I add do not show up in the folder... God I hate computers...

I have it running on WinX, but have no idea how I managed to do it.
I may have to give Vassal a try...

Does anyone have source code for it? I couldn't find any contact info for the author, who would likely not be willing to give it out anyway, since he posted that CBS sent him a letter.
I wanted to get scroll bars or at least some better fitting resolutions, and initiate an option of 1 fire/target/phase rule.

Hmmm... The VASSAL module is not the best. It does not allow movement per the pen-and-paper rules. It almost looks like it was designed to enable people in different locations to play one another across the Interwebs. I can see a use for it, but it's not my thing.

What do you mean? How does it not allow movement per the pen and paper rules?

It does not allow sideslips to port or starboard. You can rotate the ships or move them forward only.

cowboy40 do you recall how you got STSTCS to work on Win 10? And do have any ideas on how to send it to people on the forum? I hate to see it just fade away...

Ironnerd, I'm not sure what you mean about the VASSAL module. It doesn't restrict movement in any way at all.

Then I misread the movement menu. I don't mind being wrong if the right answer is helpful.

JA, you can replicate the sideslip on VASSAL, by simply putting your marker where it needs to go and NOT changing the heading. At least, for the good module of 2.2
That artifact is still heading towards the planet....
