I have found that there are 3d printed fasa style models on www.shapeways.com. Anyone here use them?

Seem to be extremely pricey. I've got a few resin ones, not sure how they were made. I prefer them to the Pb-Sn ones.

lokirisingI've picked up a few this year. Once the Holiday season is over, I'm going to try and get them painted up in the New Year, and I'll post pics of them here on my mini pics thread. GornYeah, they can be, but I picked the basic WSF material, and didn't go above about 7GBP per model, which is a price limit I use when looking for old FASA models on eBay. Not willing to pay higher for the more detailed materials, the basic shapes with decals or Letraset NCC numbers, or Warhammer decals for Romulans or Orions like I've used before will sell them in my games

I'd like an original Rom BoP that doesn't have a filling abscess flaw in its rear nacelle. But I'm not coughing up too much for it. Maybe that is why shapeways isn't selling so well, guys.

I collect 1/3125 and Eddie's sculpts are gorgeous. The only complaint I have is that some of FASA's sizes are kind of ridonculous. (The Baker, for example, being longer than the Enterprise?)

Sorry about that, but real life issues have been very distracting and took precedence, and I forgot about this thread. I've posted the info and pics also on my minis thread, but here are the first pics here of some of my Shapeways minis. Shapeways Fleet Escort, System Fleet Lite Frigate and Heavy Cruiser by The VerseThe link to the Shapeways shop that supplied them, the Verse... www.shapeways.com/shops/verses?section=Fleet&s=0Like I said elsewhere, three Trek inspired minis in the 'White Strong and Flexible' material. Usually the cheapest material to get Shapeways minis printed in. It has a rough appearance, but when I painted one of the Fleet Escort minis up, using grey car spray primer then white primer... Unpainted and painted System Fleet Lite Frigate mini...this has a smoothing effect. The detailing is in acrylic. Yes, it still might be rough very close... Close up of Fleet Lite Frigate miniUnderside detail of Fleet Lite Frigate mini...but these aren't model kits. At gaming distances on the mapsheet, they look fine to my eyes. If you want to pay more for the other materials, the prices are just too much for me personally. Yes, you will see phaser turrets because of higher resolution, but when I use spray paint, I'm probably going to cover those up anyway! Mark

Amarillo Design Bureau - the fine company that brought us Starfleet Battles - has opened a Shapeways store, with several interesting ships up in both 1/3788 and 1/3125 scales. Of most potential interest here are the Federation Constitution CA and Klingon D-7.

I forgot about this thread when I updated my mini pictures elsewhere, but that's them updated on this thread too.
I put in a Shapeways order to take advantage of their 'Cyber Monday' deal (10% off and free shipping). I ordered three Tholian War Cruisers and three Federation NCLs to represent Loknars.

Where are you getting the hex bases?

Where are you getting the hex bases? I haven't bought any hex bases in YEARS, the ones in the above pictures I've had since the early 90s! I've had a quick look around for you, and the only place I found with what looks like the same bases is out of stock at present... www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/MINIAATURES_BASES.html...they're the tenth item down. But notice two items up there is a similar sized base where the peg slots into the hex base. They might be similar to what ADB sells for their SFB/Federation Commander minis these days... www.starfleetstore.com/other-c-12_14/pack-of-6-black-plastic-stands-p-395.html...the pic there shows them better I think. Hope this helps? Or can anyone else find a current source? Mark

I just found this UK source for them! elementgames.co.uk/wargames-and-miniatures/bases-for-miniatures/flying-bases-for-miniatures/flying-basesTry 'flying bases, bag of 15' in a Google search to see if you can find a US source if that's where you are. I was going to say my bases might be the original Games Workshop bases, which I'm sure I got in either a five or ten blister pack back then. They are now much bigger (32mm), circular, and 3GBP each! I thought that's why I couldn't find stands similar to my stands. I stand corrected!

This is all good stuff, I'm about to go crazy with my next windfall. it does look like you can get more FASA proper ships in 1/3125. Thanks for your cheat pages trynda, I'm willing to overlook the size diff between 1/3125 and 1/3900 on the Romulan and Klingon sides (if the ubiquitous Klingon command pod is something different, it helps). But the 1/3700 size...any thoughts on that? I think the federation smaller ships, frigates, destroyers, should be fine but getting the known ships like the connie or reliant kind of throws it off. Also, is anyone making a 1/3125 excelsior? I can't find one, or get the length of it at that scale. Should be about 6-7 cm I think.

I haven't seen any 1/3700 stuff personally. As you know, the 1/3900 FASA and older SFB derived stuff at 1/3788 is close, see page 1 of my minis page for the two versions of the Connie.
As you say, smaller stuff in ADBs 1/3125 scale should work with FASA stuff. I might in the future pick up a 1/3125 F5 Frigate or three.

I'm building my fleet around what's more readily available, the oddballs will be the other scales... Also the Woomera L-13 Fat man is going to be the centerpiece.

For bumping--shapeways looks like a great bet, I have ordered some small stuff for the X-wing miniatures game but I've always wanted a complete list of all my favorite ships. Scaling---for the "off" type ships that don't share too many components with the 'hero' ships, I'm ok with off scales to get some things. Espeically with Klingon ships, having the classic D-7 boom throws things off, it's great when the designers don't use it and opt for alternates like woomera. As such I'm slowly piecing together a massive fleet. Since the Glorious Fat Man and d-18's and the Grim Reaper are in 1/3125, that's how i'm scaling everything else as close as possible. I'm nickel and diming it (about 1 purchase a month) but by the end of the year I'll have a massive, mostly in-scale fleet! These are mostly Shiftdel: www.shapeways.com/shops/shiftdel (messaged him, he's a class act) in 1/3125 you can get: SFB Ships (Getting a romulan condor and a b-10 to duke it out with the fat man) Klingons D-9 L-24 D-10 K-23 (about 1.54" or close 'nough for government work) Lord of the Red Rings: www.shapeways.com/product/74WSE59JL/k-23-resized?optionId=61988873D-18 (not as spiffy as the redesigns at Woomera) Pulsefired www.shapeways.com/product/YJVCBXR9B/klingon-d-18-lara-atan-destroyer?optionId=64638475l-9 saber Feds: Connie refit Excelsior (at 14.84 CM is about the closest I can get, still better than the Eaglemoss excelsior at 5.5 inches.)Nashstar shipyards: Talked to him, class act: www.shapeways.com/product/7SF2HBM6T/federation-excelsior-class-15cm-long?optionId=64721407Andor, Chandley, Northampton, Baker and remora Romulan: Gallant Wing, T-10 (wings up and wings down), Fireswarm, M-4 Mular This isn't an exhaustive list. Need help seeing if anyone can dig up the following: D-2 Stingtongue (closer to original specs...they have them in 1/7000 scale) Romulan Winged Defender (This for me is the sweetest pearl. I'll get that in 1/3900 if there's no other choice). Anyone building any other fleet scales? Post your finds!

Hi guys, nice community you have here. I am following this post and I can say that Shapeways did an important price reduction, specially for the best materials (FUD and FXD). So it is now becoming more affordable to have accurate starships. I am the Shapeways Shiftdel menioned by rabid (thanks for the promo), I have several trek ships in my shop there, mostly in 1/2500, but I am planning to rescale all my ships in 1/3900 and 1/3125 scales (and any other requested one), to attend the gaming community. I already released my D12 K'Teremmy in 1/3900, next will be my D9 Z'Gal, and the other scales. I am also working in some requests from rabid and others, although I do not have much spare time to work on them, I plan to release some new stuff as soon as possible, anyway, rescale is much easir, so if there is any of my ships that you guys need in other scale, please let me know. Regards Shiftdel www.shapeways.com/shops/Shiftdel
