What's sad is how many of those sites have links to other sites...that no longer exist. I recognized most of the names but, the sites have been gone for years.

Good idea. There might be an old thread somewhere here with similar links, but having a new one will be more up to date. Perhaps JAFisher44 could make this thread a sticky thread? And as starcruiser said, it's sad when you follow a link but find it broken. Although, of the Yahoo Groups shown, I think only Mustaka Shipyards is broken. @ironnerd, do you mind if others post sites here if they think they may be of interest? Mark

There might be one, I hadn't looked to be honest. Although maybe it was on the old forum?

Jaynz' still works. It's sort of a lasting tribute to the creator. Still, I feel like we should be downloading all this stuff and saving it somewhere before it just goes away...

Does anyone know of a applet or spreadsheet to use for building or modifying Starships? I have no code-writing ability, but I do alright with Excel. I was thinking that maybe a few of us could give a ship generator a try.
I've done it before for other game systems, and it turns out to be a helpful tool, but I can't find one for ST:STCS. If there is one, please post a link to the file here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the all-paper process a bit tedious.

Thank-you, trynda1701 . I looked all over for this spreadsheet and could not find it. I guess that's one problem with an older game; resources tend to be hidden in plain sight. I'll give the construction sheet a try later.

I worked on a couple of ships with the spreadsheet, but was not getting results that matched "the book". Here is the spreadsheet for the Larson class.

Matched which book? It has long been known that the SRM ships and those made with the Construction Manual aren't an exact match, only a close approximation. In fact some people have created alternate optimized stats for the SRM ships using the Construction Manual.

I figured it was something like that, but though I would get some verification (that's why you join a forum, right?).
I was looking in the SRM and noticed some pretty clear typos in there as well. The results of the spreadsheet were certainly close enough for me. I can see myself sacrificing a few days to starship creation.
I also found a new version of the spreadsheet, but don't like it as much. It's at the FASASTSTCS site.

Interesting - the spreadsheet doesn't have an entry for the NUMBER of torpedo launchers..?
Should have a line for that as it definitely does matter.

It does. Cell 36D in each construction page.

I worked on a couple of ships with the spreadsheet, but was not getting results that matched "the book". Here is the spreadsheet for the Larson class. Yes, like JAFisher44 said, the SRMs won't match what the Construction Manual says, with a Federation bias. Have a look at the Klingon D-2. Its especially wonky. To make it 'legal' and keep engines and weapons the same, you would end up with 1/2 ratio shields with a maximum of 10, not that funky 2/3 ratio with 15 max. That 2/3 ratio was so annoying to calculate, our group put the shield points you would get at all power levels on the front of the Ship Display!

OK - so let me ask this... I haven't modified or updated that old spreadsheet in YEARS! In fact - there are several minor errors and the back-end information has been tweaked quite a bit since it's first publication. I have a "Fleet" version - which is horizontal and just does all the calculations - fasaststcs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Master-Construction-Book.xlsx - its the one I personally use to do ALL the ships (my master copy is over 6800 lines long!) However, at the request of several folks, I've been trying to find a way to update this old thing. In the interim - we did put out a nice set of background images so folks can do up their own sheets in word or powerpoint - but my questions are these: Are people using the old version (from the old site) because they: 1. don't like the new version 2. they don't know about any other versions and/or 3. they don't want to "transfer" the data to another sheet (say a word, powerpoint or PDF file)? The primary reason for asking is so I can procede forward in the most user-friendly manner. The "Fleet" version requires a lot of scrolling left and right - but allows comparisons on multiple ships. (For an excel guy - it's just easier to see/work with). Ideally - a stand-alone app would be best - but that's WAY above my pay-grade as it were. So I have to stick with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and PDF. I can investigate a mail-merge or output format of some kind if folks want. However - all this would take some time... Is there enough interest to proceed or is it just 1 or 2 folks who are interest?

walrusguy, First, thank-you for building this spreadsheet in the first place. As a part-time excel guy, I can recognize that a LOT of work went into this. I'm using the old version because it is the most user-friendly of the spreadsheets I have found so far, and I like the output. My 02Β’ is to clean up any errors, and (maybe) update the appearance of the info sheet.

OK β Iβm going to put this out there and let everyone have a quick go at printing a version. My main objective is to create a βprintβ version that is closer to the original FASA design. (I personally use InDesign β so I got it nice and easyβ¦most folks canβt afford that kind of thing β so we need to make it as useful as possible!) So after several attempts β what Iβve done is use parts of the actual sheets and put several βimagesβ into the appropriate areas. It prints ok here at the office β but this is a large scale printing machine. Anyone who wants to give it a shot β please download and try to print on your personal home-printers. If you come up with weird layouts or funky imaging β let me know and Iβll try another avenue. If we can get it to work β Iβll add in all the functionality and drop downs. If not β weβre going back to the drawing board. Thanks everyone! (Have at it IronNerd!) fasaststcs.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Test-New-Form1.xlsx

LOL! Will do Excellent timing. I'm getting ready to run Battletech at a convention in two weeks. I will, however, make time to tinker with the new spreadsheet. <addendum> COOL! It looks great. Printer at home is out of ink (and we are experiencing a "Tropical Storm" today, so the computer joint is closed), so I'll give it a try at werk.

This looks great! Awesome work!
Any chance at a variation with two missile options for those ships that have more than one?
